The Days of VPN's are Numbered

Apparently Visa and MasterCard are starting to ban VPN and anonymizer services. Here is an article describing the new crackdown:

Mastercard and Visa Start Banning VPN Providers? | TorrentFreak

Let's face it, our government here in the US does not want anything to happen anonymously. It would interfere with their monitoring of our phone calls, emails, internet records, GPS location data, snail mail (the outside of every piece of mail in the US is now photographed), credit card payments, bank transfers, etc.

I wonder when the American people are going to say enough is enough. But both political parties seem to be in favor of this, so I don't see it ending any time soon.

My concern is how much longer are we going to be able to operate stealth with all our civil liberties being taken away little by little , our right to privacy will be more.

I'm just waiting for the day in order to open an ebay/Paypal we will need to provide our SS# and 2 form of ID

stanislav 07-04-2013 11:58 PM

Pretty sure the days of stealth are numbered ...

jeffweico 07-05-2013 12:05 AM

We will adapt. We always do. Every couple of months, we hear that something is coming down the pike that will stop stealth from working. But it has not happened yet. Techniques change, things can become more difficult, but in the end it still works.

GreenBean 07-05-2013 12:21 AM

The day man can not adapt to conditions is the day of burial.

Is it not a law of physics? For evey action, there is a reaction?

Stealth will continue. May not be easy.

Stealth will continue.

Agreed with GB.They are just abusing the power they have because they know they can. They can careless what we have to say. They will get it in the end either way. Greed is too strong these days.
You don't get nothing these days unless you fight for it. And the citizen voice of America is worth nothing.

That american expression has never made sense to me. Couldn't careless what we have to say make a lot more sense. Lost in translation I think.

The US does seem to have a news story breaking every few weeks at the moment that impacts stealth.

I have heard of rumors of "true identity" being required to sell down the road from ebay.

What is worrying me with the digital economy in general is that there is so much power concentrated in a handful of companies and they can suspend you on whim. It creates a complete imbalance.

Google can ban you and destrou your site if you don't apply by their rules. Their rules change all the times, their employees don't understand them well. Once you are suspended, you can't run ads for your site. They link accounts, etc... rings a bell?

If you develop app for iPhone, Apple can ban you from their app store for breaking the new rules they have just come up with.

One mistake and you are banned for life is too harsh.

Not really numbered - just new ways of attack will need to be found

jeffweico 07-05-2013 09:53 AM

Somehow, I don't think True Identity will be introduced for awhile. There is already enough bad press related to privacy issues for them to deal with right now.

After 2014, maybe.

Just beautiful

Other cards will surface that will help deal with this...

Goodfella22 07-11-2013 04:40 PM

we need to keep in mind there is one strategy that can be introduced that will kill stealth once and for all. I won't say it here but Im sure u guys know

rsot 07-12-2013 10:41 AM

Yes we all know the strategy...termination of Internet :FF: - back to olden days....

defon 07-12-2013 11:11 AM

No worries, Craig-- list did this to the posting software companies about 3 years ago. It took a few months of adjusting but CLADG(the largest software company) is still up and running.

Everything is out side the country merchant accounts, DNS service, everything. Craigs--- list took everything from them via the court. For over a year the software companies thought "we go everything out of the country" and then CL would find something else... a very long cat and mouse game.

GreenBean 07-12-2013 06:21 PM

Will never be a return to the olden days.
