| | | | | THawk | 08-06-2013 02:02 AM | Is this IP lookup site showing too much info? As I start to test and practice my newly learned techniques i’m encountering a few issues I’d greatly appreciate some help with, here is one:
Most forums about IP and also this section in the eb stealth book, establish that IP is a very general indication of ones geolocation and the book suggest to use an address that is at least within 100 miles.
And is true that sites such as: ipburger.com, whatismyip.com and geobytes.com will supply general info and maybe your user agent and internet provider.
But checking my IP at whatismyipaddress.com/ all my info shows, even my real neighbourhood and zipcode, this site prides itself in providing the most accurate IP location out there.
I changed my IP using the Routers Mac Address trick and got a new IP with same accurate location, next day changed it back to the default Mac Add. and got another new IP with same issue.
This is a bit too close for comfort to me, taking into account that I was gonna use a relative’s address in a different borough and neighbourhood and that having the same zip code of my old suspended accounts probably will put my new accounts under scrutiny.
What do you guys think? Is there a way to change this? Please bear in mind that my problem is not eb, but another site that could be using this type of closer tracking. |

Is the question should I worry about site xxxx to determine my IP location?
:spy: |
If your concern isn't Ebay and we have no idea what the site is then it's kind of hard to actually give a proper answer. |
| Dmshark25 | 08-06-2013 03:09 AM | Sounds like your worrying too much over geolocation of IP vs your stealth address???
If your changing from your router you usually get IPs in your states or nearby states, at least for me. Don't worry about geolocation too much it's not exact.
You will be fine doing what you are and no need to worry about geolocation as long as your getting same country IP as stealth accounts your good. |
| THawk | 08-06-2013 11:48 AM | Sorry, my intention was to give the whole pic not to be confusing, but yes GreenBean, the question is: "should I worry about site xxxx to determine my IP location?" specifically in the case of the mentioned site, which can pinpoint my state, city and neighbourhood.
To answer MM78, the site is Etsy.
Thanks! |

The fact that it's close to you is not relevant. It's picking up the zip code of the service provider.
It seems like you're worried about being tracked down, if something criminal were to occur... in that case, it wouldn't matter if the IP is 5000 miles away if you're leaving a trail.
For the purposes of not linking to a past account, you just need a different IP. Anonymity is an entirely different subject. |

I’m very new at this and this seemed like a very legitimate question to me, so I don’t appreciate you throwing in assumptions of criminal intent when you don’t even know me. |
Just a suggestion but when you make a thread and don't supply information such as the site you are referring too...it does make it difficult to give solid advice. Next time try to include ALL prudent information. |
| john456 | 08-07-2013 02:12 AM | Don't worry about ip location. Remember there are 100Million ebay accounts. ip geolocation is not a reliable way for a bot to link accounts. There would be too many false positive.
Just make sure to change your ip. |
| xj0ker | 08-08-2013 05:55 AM | I agreed with John456. We don't care about the IP Geolocation, just buy a VPS, start with it, if the IP is blacklisted then something will happen with your stealth acct. Forget that VPS Seller and try another one. Once you get a good VPS, buy several and enjoy, that's my exp on the IP problems, I had a long time living in trouble with this. |
@OP, if you are concerned about IP showing your location, you need to look into out-of-state IP options...like VPS, dongle (more or less), dial-up...those can help your woes IF you are still worried. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 08:41 AM. | |
