Changing my ip and mac address
 

Hi,

I'm currently reading the Ebay stealth guide, and i really have no idea how to change my ip, i can find it on the router's menu, i have a NETGEAR router/modem.

I attached a picture of the router's menu, please help.

I suggest you do this test for us first.

It will help in the long term.

Turn on your modem and run

IP Burger - Track Your IP Address!

Please log the IP that shows.

Turn off the modem. Wait 10 minutes or longer and repeat the steps.

If the modem is the same as your first try, then it is static and will not change.

You will have to consider other options.

What country ebay will you use, dahamit?

That will help with responses too.

If you scroll down that page, you should get to the 'Router MAC Address' section. Click the 'Use This MAC Address' option, type in the MAC address you want to use and you good to go if GB's method does not work.

If those options are not available, tell me which are :)

OP all it takes is changing one of last digits. No need to change whole MAC address

Not all modems will allow changing MAC I believe.

Had a "Ubee" model from Comcast once. Wouldn't change MAC at all via Router. Had to return it and get "Arris".

You just gave me the answer to a question I had about Comcast & its modems.

If you have this issue with a modem router, you can often change the modem router into just a modem, and attach an external router that you can then change the MAC address on. Have done this myself with virgin and it works a treat.

On that screen, what you want to do is click on Basic Settings on the left navigation pane. But before doing so, jot down your current IP address on ipburger.com


1. Scroll towards the bottom and you will see the Router's MAC address. Change the last digit by one increment (do not change any other octets, as those are reserved for hardware manufacturer and adapter)

2. Save your changes by selecting Apply.

3. Now, router will reconfigure itself (you will lose Internet connectivity). This is expected. Now reboot your modem and router.

4. Once they have restarted, Internet connectivity should be re-established.

5. Go to ipburger.com to find your new IP address.


Since I have the exact same interface (I have a Netgear router also), I thought it would be nice to provide you with a screenshot of mine to help you. Hope this is useful...

No need to use a new router.

with the super hubs, just wack it in modem mode. bang your ethernet in your laptop and the same port as you did your router and get a new i.p range, disable it and go back to your old i.p range.

I unplugged my router for 10 sec and plugged it back and the ip has changed.

I think we don't have the same router menu as i tried to follow the steps you wrote and it's not the same, this is what happens when i click the basic settings :

As you can see, no MAC address.

So, I take it your problem is now solved, since you have a new IP...correct? If resetting it is all that is needed to change the IP, then that is good news b/c that is very simple to do.

I do this all the time with my modem - turn off, wait - more than 10 secs though - and switch back on - works for me (dynamic provider company)

Only sometimes do you have to change the MAC address. If you can get a new IP by just turning off the router then its all the easier.

I have bought a remote plug that I can switch on and off from the deck. Saves having to go into and out off my study all day long to do it at the wall :)

The guide mentions changing MAC because for some people it is required.

For example, I need to log into my wifi router and modify my MAC address to "spoof" my modem into thinking it is a totally different router. After I reboot my modem, it doesn't recognize the MAC address of my wifi router, so it assigns a totally different IP.

Only takes me like 2 minutes, but it seems your method is quite easier! As long as you get a new IP, that is your only goal.

no you don't have to but it is better if you do if your provider allows it,.

Some modems will not allow changing the MAC through the Router.

Talking from experience. ISP's will have various models and brands, just gotta go back and pick a different one.

What if turning off the router is not an option? How can you change the IP address?

That is when changing the MAC address becomes a good option.
