Default Calling in on MC999 for multiple accounts, BEWARE they could be linking ur phone *67

Calling in on MC999 for multiple accounts, BEWARE they could be linking ur phone even if you dial *67 or have apps like pinger and such for call fowarding!!

Ok I found out something VERY interesting. You all may know this already but it was news to me. When you get those emails where you have to call to confirm your details/ the restriction email. Ok well when you call it generates a pin for you to enter. So I didnt enter it quick enough and it actually told me the landline number I was calling from is that correct?
and I was like holy crap what the...I made sure to hit *67 before making the call. And over the last oh bout 3 months I have been making multiple ebay accounts, lots. So I have had to call in for a few of them and know the drill. But to hear that they knew the landline regardless of it being restricted makes me super concerned now that all those accounts are now linked.
But they are of course all over the place and selling all different types of items, and have different names. So if they were going to connect it that way I would assume they already would have called BS when I called to do the verification process??
Just curious and thought it was extremely interesting!

They COULD be linked. It is IMPOSSIBLE to block your number when calling a toll-free phone number (800, 888, 877, 866, etc.) at least here in the USA. I am also aware the same thing applies in Australia. In other countries, I am not sure. The rationale for this is since the owner of the toll-free number is paying for the call, they have the right to know who is calling.

So do you think they will connect all those accounts called from the same phone regardless of *67 or other apps used on the phone? I called quite a few and I seriously would have assumed if they were going to use that to link them they would have called me on it immediately when they were getting so many calls from the same number??
And I guess from now on if I have to call I am going to get a burner phone for each one.

If you have an Iphone/Smartphone and you have the Google Voice App, you can use the app to call Ebay with the App and it will show that number.

DON'T USE *67... it does nothing, at least for ebay. USE Google Voice App as MM78 says.

In my 'day' job, I work for a telephony company. I can tell you for a fact that all *67 to a phone company does nothing.

When you use that*67 feature on your cell phone or landline when making a call to a normal residential customer, the caller ID would show up as "Restricted" or "Anonymous". But Ebay is not your neighbor, they have far more advanced tool.

If I see the call coming in as "Restricted" or "Anonymous", all I do is scroll further down in the logs to reveal the true originating number. I wouldn't be surprised if ebay has tools to detect this. They would just need to read the 'p-asserted identity field' to see your number.

However, if you use the Google Voice App, which is a forwarding service, it would be highly likely to impossible for them to see your number (I know it is for me).

In order for them to find out, Ebay would need to issue a subpoena to the originating carrier, requesting this information (which is what we do if law enforcement requests it). Ebay doesn't have the time or man-power to do this to every call into their Call Centers.

So don't use the *67 service and think your number is being blocked. Use a forwarding service such as GV app.

*67 does not block your number from being seen by a toll-free service.

I have used anonymous Skype to call them up and lift mc999.

You should be calling from the number you have on file with EB.

You should have that telephone number either set up for you to call from.

GV can be set up through your smartphone.

Tracfone direct. And other ways that have been discussed throughout the forum.

*67 will not help at all as calling a toll free number. The receiver of the call is paying for the call therefore have access to the telephone number originating the call.

Not sure what you guys are talking about but I have called from my cellphone numerous times to eBay in order to increase my selling limit. I always block my number and it works.

Until it does not. Don't cut corners. I know for a fact that ebay tracks your phone number when you call. They are the master of linking.

You might be lucky is all - if you are calling the toll-free number, *67 does NOT hide the number.

Are you calling ebay via their toll free (800#) or a local number. If you are calling the 800# and you block your number it is wrong to assume they cannot see your number.

Yes, it may work to lift your limit, but you should be well aware that ebay not only saw your number, they now have it on file & can eventually link you on that phone call alone down the road.

Obviously, other factors will come into play when linking an account...a phone call alone may not do it, but please do not assume ebay didn't see your number.
