Need a recommendation for a new wireless router

Hi,

I recently purchased a Motorola SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem to use with my XFINITY/Comcast service. I want to purchase a wireless router that will take advantage of the current technology and reboot fast but I'm blown away by the amount of choices I have. I currently have an older Netgear WNR1000 V2 that lately has been taking forever to reset. I've looked at the Netgear WNDR3700 Gigabit router but the reviews are all over the place. I don't game, stream movies, or anything like that. I just need a stable, fast, router that can cover a 2 story 3000sqft home.

I'm not tech savvy and need a recommendation for the Aspkin brain trust.

Thanks

I also have XFinity/Comcast and here is my personal setup...

Arris TMG602G Modem + NetGear N600 WNDR3400

It works great. I can connect many wifi devices (around 10 or so) without losing broadband speed. It is simple to get a new IP address (I just log into 192.168.1.1 and change the last digit of the MAC address, reset router + modem, and get a new IP from Comcast - entire process takes 1-2 minutes).

I suggest you...

1. Purchase your own modem so you do not get charged a monthly rental fee from Comcast.

2. Do not opt for the modem/router combo option. Too many people have complained that they have trouble getting a new IP when resetting the MAC address.

Thanks, and yes I have already purchase the modem. Comcast sent me the modem/router combo after I specifically asked for a standalone.

My current set up takes maybe 10 minutes to get another signal after rebooting. My desktop has a USB network adapter. Do you think it may be the cause of my system taking 10 minutes to get a new signal?

The standalone should in theory get the signal back faster
