How to change your IP address if you are using Cable Internet (Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Charter, Suddenlink... and more in the U.S, I don't know about Canada or UK)

There are two to change your IP

1. Connect your PC direct to cable modem:
- This method not using the router (this is what I used).
- Just connect direct from your PC/Laptop to cabel modem.
- With this set up you can change you IP in less than 1 minute.
- You need to spoof your PC/Laptop MAC address to get new IP
- You need to use software to spoof you MAC.
- I used TMAC (Technitium MAC Adress Changer) v5. It work better than the current v6 in my opinion.
- You can preset all the MAC you need with the Stealth and change the MAC with 1-2 click :)

Bonus: For the cable modem and service
- I used the slowest service that they provide like $2X.xx/mo for like 3Mbs line. You don't need the super fast service, it just waste of money.
- I used Netgear Cabel modem with custom ROM called Haxorware to get the max speed (I can get up to 30Mbs sometime)
- You can buy the Netgear Modem on eBay for less than $40 shipped (Just search for Haxorware and narrow down to Netgear)
- If you order this modem from eBay, when received it just log-in to control panel and change the modem MAC address to match your.
- The reason I pick the Netgear because it have 4 RJ45 output port. You can have 4 devices and 4 different IP at the same time.

2. Connect using a router: I think most peoples using this method
- You don't need to pull the power from router or cabel modem to get new IP
- You don't need to change your PC/Laptop MAC address for this method
- You do need to change your router MAC address to get new IP
- When you change your router MAC address, it always do restart the router automatic
- This method will take more than a minute to get IP change.
- Different router have a different log-in IP address and User/Pass


P.S: Thing need to do with the wireless router
- Change the router password (I mean the one to login and control the router - admin)
- Set up you wireless router properly to prevent others log-in to your network
- Never let anyone else using that WIFI (they my login their account that you don't know about)

Another method that can help some is to do an ipconfig /release. ISPs assign dynamic IPs to you via DHCP and they all have what's called "lease times".

If you release your IP and turn off your modem/router overnight and come back the next morning, you will be given a new IP once you reconnect everything.

Obviously if you don't want to wait that long, your methods are preferred.


For direct connection to PC...

Type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes, on the command line by itself).
Shut down computer.
Turn off computer.
Turn off all ethernet hubs/switches.
Turn off cable/DSL modem.
Leave off overnight.

If using a router...

Log into the router's admin console. (Often http://192.168.1.1/)
Release the IP address (method varies by router manufacturer)
Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem
Leave off overnight
Next day, turn everything back on
Turn everything back on.

ISP that need to avoid for Stealth is AT&T Uverse. They are claim that it is a dynamic IP but never change. Even turn off the gateway for more than 24hrs

Yes, I've read a lot of posts on other forums of ppl complaining of ATT Uverse. Technically it is a dynamic IP, but it is really a sticky dynamic IP. A sticky IP has a much longer lease time. This is why I recommend trying to do the ipconfig /release method and let it sit overnight with things powered off.

OR a person can just google their ISP + lease time to find out what their ISP lease time is. If it is 4 hours, unplug everything for 4 hours and come back to get a new IP after powering back up.

A sticky dynamic IP address is an informal term used by cable and DSL Internet access subscribers to describe a dynamically assigned IP address which seldom changes. The addresses are usually assigned with DHCP. Since the modems are usually powered on for extended periods of time, the address leases are usually set to long periods and simply renewed. If a modem is turned off and powered up again before the next expiration of the address lease, it will most likely receive the same IP address.

I had used AT&T Uverse before and it is imposible for me to get IP change. I have done every way I found but no change. I give up and go with cable

Netgear with Haxorware sounds interesting if I can have 4 different ips!

I did testing with Netgear using Comcast and almost had consistent results with Mac address spoofing. If you change the mac address, and reuse the same address the following day, or two or within a week, you are most likely to get the same IP address.

@TonyAlmeida, if your NIC is inbuilt, you can corrupt the motherboard with too much spoofing. I would use a PCI netword adapter to protect the motherboard.

Modem: Motorola SB6141 Docsis 3.0
Router: NetGear WNDR3700

No need to change user/pass. Also rebooting is not necessary.

Most efficient method, with a specific brand of routers:

Start Firefox, automatically loads: Ipburger, Router Setting Address, and Fee Calculator.

It will prompt (pop-up) to login into the router as soon as Firefox starts. Simply click "ok". Firefox will remember the MAC Address used for each Windows User Account. So once you click "ok" wait 8 seconds and the IP is ready.

No need to type anything or fiddle with additional software.

Wow this sounds amazing but i'm not sure how exactly you do that since I'm a chrome user. Can you elaborate a bit more on this?

I'm not sure whether it reboots or not when you change MAC. But a regular reboot via Router Settings generally takes a 1-3 minutes. I'd say it doesn't reboot.

I don't use Chrome, you can try of course. First thing you need is the proper brand of Router, you can PM me for that.

Firefox automatically opens the tabs you left open previously. Setting is optional of course in Firefox. This is available for Chrome as well.

When you fire up Firefox, it opens your previously unclosed tabs (Ipburger, Router Address, and whatever else you want, not Ebay or Paypal ), after that the Router Address Tab pops up your login/password in a small window. It's already remembered/prefilled by Firefox, so you click OK (login popup window automatically disappears after that). Next 8 seconds the router changes the MAC automatically.

I'd post a video, but would have to edit a bunch of information that is displayed, and I don't have the skills or time for that :)

I tried a few different routers and methods few years ago. This was the fastest and most efficient way to get your IP ( 10 seconds from the moment the Windows User Accounts is loaded ). Add a few more seconds if you got a new IP and need to copy/paste it into your Excel sheet.

Setting => On Starting => Open a specific or Set of Pages => Set Pages => Enter URL => OK

Setting up to open a specific set of pages, might not work properly. For example if you do that with the Router Setting Tab, it might bring you tho the home page, where it might not automatically change the MAC. Haven't tested, but it's a good possibility that might happen.

Best to "remember closed tabs", and simply leave the essential tabs open each time you close Firefox.

Also worth mentioning, make sure tabs are loaded automatically each time you start Firefox. The other option is to load them once they are "in focus".
