Can eBay US access driver license information details like height?

I was asked what was my height on my driver license on the phone with ebay yesterday.

I thought it was really odd that they would have access to information like that.

Is it a trick?

They can more or less ask what they want to ask.

They are known to be sneaky to try to trip people up.

eB is known to make up questions to throw people off and justify a 'Request for documentation'. You have to play their game - when in doubt? No or none of the above - keeps them quiet and happy.

Thx. It was really strange from a privacy standpoint. No US company has access to personal information on your DL, but they make it sound like they have access to it. "We are checking your answer against a public database".

I am guessing they ask you first what your height is and they verify what you said against what you sent on your DL.

Before I talked to T&S, the first rep asked my if I was latino !? I never knew I sounded latino. Friendly chichat or first curve ball?

Some states sell their driver's license data to private companies and some don't. In order to buy such a database you need what is called "permissible purpose". Fraud prevention and identity verification qualifies. To find out more about this, check out the following:

So, YES, it is entirely possible that eBay DOES have this information.

Nothing should be strange from a privacy standpoint and ebay.

All companies that have need to 'know' info of the ID of customers employ these tactics.

Learn to operate on that basis or continue being surprised.
