Can I use my HSBC saving account for my stealth Paypal? Thank you in advance.

just opened a HSBC basic acc.and taking forever..not have all info till next week so it will be over 2 weeks...ouch

Some people are saying that they used saving accounts without problems and others say categorically no to it, so it's a bit 50/50 situation, I guess depends on personal experience. But thank you all for your comments, much appreciated.

halifax saving acc used to work, im not sure now, you can try them...

If your savings account can take the DD mandate then there is a good chance it could work although thats not to say there could be other issues or issues down the line.

I always use basic bank accounts, it eliminates any potential issue down the road as they are tried and tested and have all the functionality needed for stealth.

Rbs, natwest, barclays all good. Just try it, if no good add another diff saver :rolleyes:

Here in US you can use HSBC checking or Saving account I use this bank myself with no problem...when I add a bank account to my paypal I always mark it as a checking account...even if it is saving account..it looks better when you mark as a checking account in my exp.:brushteeth:

It is the US equivalent of a UK current account.

The issue with savings accounts is that they will not accept the direct debit mandate, which can be a problem.

Put it through with Direct Debit then once verified remove the savers then add. The problem is that after a while it rejects the Direct Debit Mandate.

Proceed with caution on fresh PayPals as they like to let you call up to get it manually readded. Which is no issue really but a reason for them to look at your PayPal.

James is absolutely right, by default MOST high street saving accounts cannot accept a Direct Debit Mandate. They are not originally designed too. They are however some saver type accounts which are now beginning to accept direct debit payments (often online). Some of these providers are listed below:

TESCO Bank (multiple DDs allowed)
West Bromwich BS (selected accounts)
Egg (Yorkshire BS; allowing multiple DDs on same account)
Bank of Ireland Websave
BM Savings (existing accounts only)
GE Capital

The Savings providers below (which are most high street banks) dont have a Direct Debit feed:

- Barclays savings accounts
- Barnsley BS
- Cambridge BS
- Chelsea BS
- Coventry
- Derbyshire
- KRBS
- LLoyds savings accounts
- M&S Savings
- N&P
- National Counties
- Northern Rock
- Nottingham Building Society
- Saffron BS
- Sainsbury's Bank
- Skipton
- Yorkshire BS (except for old Egg accounts, it seems)

For best stealth results, pretty much everyone on here would recommend opening a basic current account. Afterall Its not any harder than opening a savers account so why go for cotton when you can have silk as the saying goes :)

Great list, but just to note that there are reposts that Tesco saver account cannot verify PP accounts, although it can be used to withdraw.

Good news, not used it myself which is why I say there have been reports on the forum.

Thought it prudent to point out.

How long ago did you verify the PP using the Tesco account? And was it the savers account or the current account. That post was RE the saver account mentioned by tmastermind

Recently actually. I didn't know it had been spoke about on the forum that it wasn't a good choice - but it worked and have withdrawn as well.

Correct me if im wrong but isn't there talk of TESCO starting current accounts because they did so well in 2013? Thought I saw this on the news.
