Does paypal require EIN or SSN at signup now? Dec 2013

Just signup for a new account and paypal wont let me register without entering EIN or SSN, I can cancel signup at that step and can still login to this account but it keeps asking for SSN every time I log back in...

I really hope this is just a random incident. I haven't made any new paypal accounts in a while so I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe you were linked somehow? Try creating another stealth paypal and see if they ask you for SsN or Ein.

I create alot of paypal accounts, I know they use to ask for EIN info and make it an optional but not its not optional any more :(

Can some one else confirms this ? I think this just happened very recently !

i made at least 20 accounts in the last 4 weeks never received that yet, are you sure your not getting linked somehow, actually just made 2 few minutes ago

Maybe if they don't want to grow anymore.

More likely it's random, as in address/name/ip/etc. issue.

Just created 3 Paypals and can confirm that SS # is not required.

OP, your thread title should be a question rather then a statement. Check your work next time before you post something as fact. A one time/infrequent random security check is not enough to post something as a new requirement. All threads like this do is create paranoia.

@OP, just made a US pp of my own yesterday - no issue like this - something wrong/accident is being done I would say

I think this should be taken as a warning sign. This could be mandatory in the future. PayPal has never needed to ask these questions as they have always avoided becoming an actual bank, but maybe they have changed their mind for some reason.

That screenshot sure looks real to me. That tells me that PayPal is testing this, perhaps to see how many people will abandon the signup process when they ask for an ssn/dob.

We should keep an eye on this. It may become more difficult to create accounts in the future.

Yes screen shot is real, this is what I get every time I try login to this account but not with the one I created after this..I am guessing they will go amazon way as well. Ein Required right at busienss sign up or Ssn on personal after small number of sales

In a way, it could be GOOD for those of us willing to put in the extra effort to get around it - less competition. But there will ALWAYS be workarounds.

Yes, that's how amazon is now too... But we will see...

I selected personal for this account .. Others I did business and did not have this issue
