Amazon MAC and FIOS

Hello,
Seeing as I can not change the MAC on the Fios router, if I run a Netgear router after does Amazon still read the Fios router?

It seems it would but I can not find clear info on this searching online or on the Forum.

Thanks in advance!

Amazon is going to read your external IP, what ever your ISP denotes to you. I am unsure how to change the fios IP but I did a quick google and a lot of people are saying it is not possible to change your fios IP address. You would have to manually call them each time you wanted it changed and I am sure they would be asking a lot of questions to go with this. Please someone correct me, but that is my though of the topic.

@yankee...it sounds like you have a combo modem/router from Verizon.

More than likely, the FiOS router is one of those 'all-in-one' combo modem/routers.

In essence, you would need to put the device into bridge mode accomplish what you're trying to do (which only FiOS has access to do depending on the model).

Better option is to request a stand-alone modem from Verizon and purchase your own router. OR look into other options such as dongle, tethering, or even dial up.

Never thought of a stand alone modem! But I will use the slower tethering option. Dial up is just not going to work for me. Thanks for the clarification!

No problemo.

I still think you should try to see if Verizon is willing to swap your current modem for a stand alone one (assuming the one you currently have is a combo modem/router).

You're paying for broadband service through Verizon...so why not truly utilize it and enjoy the high speed connection while still being able to change your IPs by resetting your router :)

For comparison, I have an Arris modem supplied by my provider...Comcast. I purchased my own Netgear router.

I simply modify the WAN MAC address on my Netgear router to preset digits associated w/ each of my stealth accounts. I then reset my router, wait 30 seconds, power it back up and get the IP associated to the stealth account I need to access.

If you still want to go the tethering route, no argument here. That's still a good option. Best of luck w/ whatever option you choose.
