Default Got this notice from HSBC

Thank you for choosing HSBC.

I am writing to you today to request missing information on your
relationship with HSBC. HSBC policy and regulatory guidelines require the
bank to obtain, verify and record specific information that identifies all
HSBC account holders.

A review of your account reflects that we do not have the following
information:
Name of employer and occupation
Purpose of account
Source of initial and ingoing funding of account
Expected incoming and outgoing wire activity

They then leave me a number to call. Is there anything I should be concerned about?

I have received deposits from stealth accounts already. Do you think they will ask about the deposits from someone with a different name? What are some creative reasons I can come up with if they do ask this?

Wow that is a lot of specific information they want. They are asking for way more than info to verify identity. You need to talk to some of the forum vets about this.

I have had the same a few months ago, about a 5 page questionnaire asking every bit of money I have earned and spent in the past 10 years and what I plan on earning the next 12 months.

Its nothing to do with stealth or ebay its regarding the HSBC and money laundering. Every customer of the HSBC will be asked this eventually, is your account offshore?

They're doing an initial investigation because flags have been raised regarding what the account is being used for. Can't quite speak for US banks, but in the UK generally you're asked those kind of questions when you open an account (though, it's not exactly checked - you can lie about it all and chances are, no one will find out)

Play innocent, make sure you state if it's a personal account then say it's for personal savings and whatnot. As long as you don't leave any more flags, chances are it won't be taken further.

I have opened 3 checking accounts with HSBC within the same week or so. These were the only 3 i opened. I opened the accounts a few months ago online and they are not offshore. I did not open or close any other accounts with HSBC.

I'll definitely say they are personal, but what If they ask about paypal deposits with mismatched names? what are some recomended reasons i could give?

Thanks for the insight thus far.

.
Why not tell them that you sell on ebay under multiple accounts? Truth almost always wins for me.

The deposits have been no greater than $300.00 in each account. I have accumulated roughly $1800 throughout all 3 checking accounts within the past 3 months since I opened them. I couldn't imagine this figure triggering any flags.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with HSBC. It was a very straightforward process. The person on the phone just asked me where I am employed, where I receive my direct deposit from, and how much it would be.

I do receive direct deposit from a part-time job I have, so I just said I receive direct deposit from there, the direct deposit just doesn't go with HSBC. The rep said okay, no problem, and asked the dollar amount I typically receive from that direct deposit.

Then she asked if I recently made a deposit from paypal. I said I did, and the rep asked if I plan on receiving frequent deposits from paypal. I tried to be vague, and told her I plan on receiving deposits here and there. She did not inquire any further. After that, I just waited while she entered stuff into her computer, and that was it.

I asked her if there was a specific reason why I was requested to call in, and she said HSBC was changing their system and they needed to update some info for their customers. Eh, who knows, but it was a straightforward, easy process and if anyone else with stealth gets this notice I wouldn't worry too much.
