Paypal - receiving unexpected largish amount

Hi

I'm selling on one Stealth account with transactions outside of Ebay. The PP(non-business) and Ebay are both about 2 years old, but I only recently started selling on both Ebay and somewhere else.

My payments from Ebay are on 21-day holds currently, but my outside of Ebay Payments are going through instantly

I have about 4 feedback from Ebay, and also completed 2 non-ebay sales recently for about $30 usd each.

Today I was selling something for $220 outside of Ebay, but I wasn't expecting this person to buy three, so I have a payment waiting in PP for about $675 that I haven't accepted yet.

As this is a much larger amount than I was planning to deal with, i'm worried that when I do click accept, bam i'm going to get a limitation.

Can any experienced folk that have been in similar situations make a guess as to what might happen?

I am tempted to refuse the Payment and say "Hey, sorry I put I had 10 items of these by default, I only have one at the moment, can you place another order for one, I get some more in a couple of days, will let you know when they're in"

Just ask the buyer were they buying multiples of the item. If yes ok great if no refund the difference.

Yes they were buying multiples, 3. Thinking whether to not accept the payment, ask her to just order 1 for now and risk that she doesn't order at all. Or do what you say and refund the difference, but I don't think refunding a large amount will look good on a new account.

Or of course accept the payment

Accept the payment, don't really see it would be that much of an issue as you have received smaller amounts prior to this

To be honest $675 should be fine as a one time payment if you've been selling steadily over the past few months or so.

Despite the account being a couple of years old, i've only been selling on it for a month. About four items on Ebay all under $10, and two non ebay sales of about $30

Personally I think you should be OK this once.... obviously if you suddenly received some other larger amounts it might draw scrutiny but I think you will be fine.

Just dont try and withdraw it quick... I think thats where the flags often come in

I agree totally. I leave ALL funds in PayPal on all my accounts for as long as possible, usually nearly 2 weeks as I can run without having the need to withdraw for a while, plus I don't want to draw any flags.

Should be ok sax4

Thanks, it's good to get the viewpoint from some experienced guys.

Still haven't made my mind up though!, quite an important account for me

I've loads of experience with non-ebay transactions through a premier paypal account (it's about 80% of what I do) and you will be absolutely fine with these amounts.

Thanks Karmaz, I have received it without any problems. Will send and confirm dipatch tomorrow, wait 2 days, then withdraw a bit at a time

In the grand scheme of things on eb $675 is not a large amount. If me I would just proceed as anything else could be problematic. Good Luck!

Its the withdraw that would flag you more then the payment. If anything that would flag the buyer.

1. Make sure you ship with tracking numbers updated in paypal. Signature Prefered.
2. Wait until item is delivered and wait a week or two so you know customer is satisfied
3. Break-up that withdraw into several small amounts spread of some time

no it is not a large amount, on that age acc, you will be fine.

on larger amounts, say $1000 plus, they have done the transaction review and then 'ok to ship' email, fo my protection. I never had any probs, but then again I never take huge huge amounts via paypal.

yes, agree it is not the receiving, it is the withdraw part too soon that can cause issues. Also if you try and make payments eg. pay to another paypal you can get weird error messages, almost like they are giving you a daily sending limit.
