You won't get it raised, it will do a check , and if ur identity doesn't match public records u won't even get a chance for an increase, if it does u will need to know SS#, birthday, what color was a car purchased in 2002 etc..
When you say max out sales are you saying to try and hit the money limit too?
My account is 10/$1000
So would I be better off selling 10 items for $1000 each or 10 cheap items?
I find it better to try to get close to maxing out both money and quantity because then they tend to give you larger increases in both. Just my personal experience.

The limits raise naturally without calling in, they want to see u are selling getting the item out fast with tracking and u get high DSRs , the first 3 months is a probation period, if in those 3 months u achieved what I have mention roped than the limits will raise
And usually it will happen sometime after the 90 days , if ur limit is 10 items list all 10 and usually u will log back in and see the increase, my dollar amount is usually under the $1000 but that doesn't matter
When ur account has passed the 90 day probation period the limits go up
one of my accounts...under a year old has a monthly selling limit of £11,000 thats right not a type error... 11k a month
i never requested the hike... one day i just had an email to say congrats my limit has been raised... to this day i believe its a mistake on there behalf but obviously im not going to flag them up about it
the account was only around 6 months old, obviously had 100% and no issues
but nothing warranted such a hike, but im not complaining
What about these accounts here on the forum that you can buy? If I buy one that has 100/5000 selling limit can I sell that much right away or do I need to take it slow and increase? If so how much each month?

You'd be best to speak to the specific account seller.
Personally the minute I get an increase on the account, I ramp up the listings to the maximum.
I can't see why it would cause an issue to sell to the maximum of your limit straight off the bat. It's kind of the reason why selling limits were introduced in the first place. They stop 0 feedback sellers listing 10000 items on their first day.
