Can you file a chargeback for non-physical items (service)?

Just wondering and I thought the most knowledgable place to ask was here. I know for PayPal they don't allow disputes for services purchases.

But if I were to pay someone via credit card, for a service that was agreed upon online and they fail to come through, could you file a chargeback through your credit card company? (I'm with Mastercard)

I'm currently Google-ing for answers as well, but there isn't much that answers my question yet.

Thanks guys

Any such claim would be at the discretion of your card company...

Different factors are involved. They will look at the status of your account & even if you have made other chargebacks.

Simple answer: yes you could.

More complex: Would depend on your history with the credit card AND their online FRAUD protection...(many cc providers have these now)

Based on my experience with VISA, any an authorized charge will be flagged as FRAUD and handed over to security team for review.

If you cannot afford to pay the outstanding bill, that particular charge will not incur interest until the issue is resolved.

There may come a point when you have to prove your facts. So be ready and keep you records straights.

In a nutshell, you will not be denied a charge-back, pending inviestigation.

Too many chargebacks will lead to a cc provider closing your account so be aware of this too

Usually they'll ask a set of questions like...

1.Have you made a purchase before with this merchant?

2.Did you authorize this first charge?

3.Are there other chargebacks on you're account?

4.Did you contact the merchant?

To be honest I actually had to this with Avast. The antivirus company. My bank called them with me and all they got was "please send a support ticket". I told them I did 3 times still no reply. Just be frank/blunt, but nicely. Contact is the biggest factor in my OP. If they can't speak to them it's a easy win.
