Old Account $-1800ish. Can Paypal Get me?
 

Hello all!

I was going thru some old accounts and noticed one of my first accounts has a huge negative balance on it! The Chase account it was attached to has long since been closed but of course it was attached to my real name, etc.

So my question is can Paypal get me in any way? The account is in an alias of my own name and they MAY have my ssn on file, but Im not sure. Can I check this somehow? I have other Chase accounts open. Can they get any funds from those accounts? Or can they turn me into collections? What can they do and how can I best prepare?

I have heard that Paypal might shrug off a few hundred dollars but if I owe enough they will come after me. Is that about right? Im looking for any advice or personal experiences similar to my own so I can get an idea of what Im up against.

They won't be able to directly withdraw from your other Chase accounts, but if they decide to get the law involved, they can easily track this account back to you in a lot of ways. For instance, they can force Chase to give up your personal information because you have their bank account on file.

most cases Paypal wont seek criminal justice for $1800 but you never know.

So just the bank account is in your real name but pp is stealth? PP can go to Collections with the info on registration...

This being said, not vouching that you dont pay what is due but think what can be done with the info PP has...

Thats right rsot. I need to figure out if PP has my ssn or not. Can they goto collections without a ssn? I would be disappointed in chase if they just gave up all my personal info to PP but I guess thats how things are done these days. This is a great reminder of why I became stealth in the first place. Thank you all for the feedback and Im open to further input or opinions.

They can go to collections with any information - ssn helps but does not seem critical if they can ID the person...

Interesting I spose Ill just hope for the best and see what happens. It sounds like the time to make any preparations for this situation has long since passed. Even if I close my current Chase accounts the damage seems to be done. Im not at all concerned with anything criminal. Hell Id welcome the chance to tell my side of the story to a jury of my peers. Its just my credit rating I am concerned with and it seems there is little I can do but hope at this point. Thank you all for the info.

Oh on a side note it looks like this amount has been past due for some time now, like over a year. If they were going to take action they would have by now yes? Or no?

Never can be sure with PP - they have gone to collections with amounts less than $5...few members have told me about this.

Now given the length of time that has passed ....logical to assume that chances are less but there is still the open chance that they would...
