Can I use a random street address?

Hi,

I'm a complete noob here and have a few quick questions.

For my eBay/PayPal account is it okay to use an address that I have no access to e.g (A real random address that I can just pluck from google maps) or will I have to look into a rented mail box addresses?

I plan to leave a flyer with every item that I send out which will feature my real address and I will refer back to this for any returns. Will this be okay?

Thank you

Its much better practise to use an address that you have access to especially with eBay managed returns being pushed a lot by eBay

Avoid that.

UK buyers have a strange mentality. They often report sellers for stuff like this.

Make your account as safe & reliable as you can by having access to a different address.

Ideally, you should have control on the address you use - especially for returns...not all buyers/postal service will follow instructions inside the package...

Re: Can I use a random street address?

I see, I will be able to use a new address that I have access to for one stealth account at most.

When using an address are the returns the only factor that I have to consider? I sell mainly low value items so the truth is I won't really mind not receiving the returned items and just deal with a loss.

Thank you for your answers

You must always consider the weirdness of buyers

Keep in mind there are massive changes coming with DSRs etc.

You must try to run stealth accounts as flawlessly as possible.

Try to risk shortcuts that may harm you.

Re: Can I use a random street address?

The majority of buyers who want to return will contact you first rather than raise through ebay, you can then tell them your real address that way instead of registering it - I usually omit the spaces between the numbers/letters just incase the messages are monitored.. eg return to steve.smith 123⊗⊗⊗⊗,st london
never had a problem

any low value items let them keep those.

So to answer your question, you can use a random address.

this will work if you want a short term account or to make sure it works, after around 500$ i would buy a address or find someone to drop your items to.

what about an address to be solely used for an stealth paypl?

Re: Can I use a random street address?

It might not be the best practice but normally for stealth's I use real street with a phake address number that doesn't exist. So if the last house on the street is 204 Maple Lane. I will chose like 206 Maple lane. Something like that. Then when I send I items I black out the return address and add a P.O. Box that I have access to under a business name. Like others mentioned it might be a bit different of UK sellers.

This thread may be old but the question is not out dated. I think it depends on the seller. For me, I'd rather just let the customer keep it and receive a refund. Returns for me are rare and the amount sometimes is really low. I don't see the hassle being worth it.

The thread isn't really dated based on the most recent responses. If you have a low cost or high margin item it might be easier to just eat it. If you have a higher cost item then you may definitely want to take it back. If I send a customer something that costs me $70-80 I am not going to just give it to them. If I am selling an Iphone Cable I paid $1 for or whatever then yea its not even worth the time.
