Google Voice = MC999
 

Every time I create an account with Google Voice as the phone number it gets MC999 the very next day after creation & making it a seller account (without listing anything). All other accounts created in the exact same manner except with a Tracfone instead of Google Voice are up and running.

I thought Google Voice was OK to use? Am I doing something wrong?

I disagree with that, all if not most of my accounts are made using GV.

Google voice has been giving headaches for a while now.
There are very few numbers that have not been abused since its a free service.
Best to get a cheap little phone.

OP also if you just need to get your four digit code to start selling just use Textplus it will work

I live in Washington DC metro area. Even getting a GV number is difficult. Perhaps abuse in my area is the problem. Major bummer.

I agree, for getting the PIN you can use pinger.com or textnow.com

Just used GV for calling in to lift an MC999 no problem too. Guess time will tell.

Can you register tracphones to any local zip or is it automatically assigned?

When you register your phone Tracfone asks what is the zip code that you will most often use your phone in. I'm not sure if that affects registration/your phone number but they do ask in the set up process.

For Tracfone they ask which zipcode you want the number to be for. All you need to register and start the line is an email. So you can get the phone number specifically for the address you are using. They are relatively cheap about $10. I recently found a sale for them for $5 at a local Target. They also come with 20 free minutes and each text costs .30 minutes. So for me it was enough to receive the verification codes AND to call in to eBay to "verify" identity for seller account.

Also, since I have to many Tracfones I usually just turn around and list the accessories that come with the phone on eBay and get all of my money back that I spent on it. :humble: You can also set up call forwarding, so once you run low on minutes just set the call forwarding on and have ebay call you instead.

I must be a complete idiot- I have tried textplus so many times now and cannot figure it out AT ALL. Maybe its because I am trying to use the ipad app of it? I end up just uninstalling it because i get nowhere with it EVER :(

Many of these VOIP services DO NOT support the premium SMS that paypal uses. That's probably why they use it.

Does this mean for every account you would purchase a tracfone phone? Just to obtain a number? Wouldn't a call forwarding service with access to several numbers be better? I would like to know for several accounts I am setting up.

phones are tricky! tracfone is a good solution for acct creation but if you get to limits it may not meet all your needs. how many non stealth regular pp acct users have a forwarding service as their home or cell phone ?

That happened to me today too, eBay called me to my GV and i couldnt answer. Five minutes later, they closed my account!! I called them and they were horrible, they said that my account was PERMANENTLY suspended for suspicious activity (i have 100% positive feedback, no cases opened and i was selling just a few cheap things on that account) They told me that i can open an account in Prostores, a new ebay way of selling.

I really think they are in their "closing accounts" mode

Gets kind of expensive if you have many accounts. There are cheaper alternatives out there. I guess im cheap, lol.

the other day many (if not all) of my paypal accounts got limited. required me to verify my identity via text message

as long as you press the "confirm" button twice with nothing inside, they will try to call you instead, to verify the code.

Gmail supports the google voice plugin if you have it on your browser. This will allow you to receive calls on your computer and type in the code


did that to all of my accounts and got fully restored

if you don't do it immediately, ebay will suspend the account - code MC013 or something. I had a few accounts do this, with only about 50% coming back to life afterwards.

Gmail has become a pain as they are starting to require a call to verify just to create an account.

Many here have reported GV was an issue for them and got mc999s.

Now it is hard to even get a GV number if you wanted to use it.

If people would think outside the box as Aspkin has put it then it would make more sense. I don't have a stack of phones like I don't have a stack of laptops. 1 laptop + 1 phone = many stealth accounts!

Yes google voice takes back unused numbers and if someone deletes the gmail then the burnt up number is free to the next sucker.

Maybe you change the SIM when there is a need for a "phone verification" only? New SIM = new number = new verification = problem solved, acc verified - next one, please.

Or something else?

As far as I've read from other threads - they're sometimes "random" calls check to be sure that the phone is pingable/ringable.

If you're going to go the GV route, just be sure to make a personalized greeting with your stealth name. And go into settings and turn OFF the feature that lets anyone who calls know they're calling a google voice number.

Test a call to your GV number and make sure it doest shout "HEY ALL, IM USING GV"

I disagree that GV always gives MC999, but it's certainly something to be cautious about and I'll tell you why..

1) Phone numbers are reused. Could come across a link; that's all it takes.
2) Sometimes your GV numbers will glitch and NOT WORK AT ALL.
3) Ebay and Paypal, when they call up, don't like it.

In my case, it pays to buy a phone and have a legitimate number on the account. Keeping track kind of sucks.

I got an account restricted-->suspended because of using stupid textplus and couldn't verify several times. I'm at the point where I'll pay $10 for a burner SIM each account I create bc of this nuisance.

Do Tracfones keep the same number even if you don't use it for 9 months and decide to pay to turn it back on?

its now confirmed that GV is causing accounts to MC999 or 0/0 limits on MOST

and the cheap tracfones stay on for 60 days after activation.

for that reason, I still recommend adding the GV number as an additional "alternate" number on the account - Just don't use it to verify anything. This way you may still be able to salvage the account in the future if needed - you don't need a forwarding phone for GV to work. With the right plugin, you can accept and make calls from the gmail homepage (from middle left hand bar)

Google has ways of identifying your PC that's stronger than Amazon! I had to go to my safety list of gmail accts I had for a rainy day to make accts. I still have 30 or so left.
I have noticed if you stay away from making gmail accts for while Google/gmail stops with the intense scrutiny when you make new ones WITHOUT the phone call to verify....6 months I went back.
