Tips for using a VPN

I am not really going to spend too much time on this but I have had a some success using a vpn and I believe this is why

I looked up the locations of the IPs that my vpn normally provides. For instance if it says east, normally it is going to be Chicago. In fact it is always a Chi town ip address. So I base all my account info off of this.

I residency, phone number area code, and everything else.

Also instead of just picking any old place on the vpn, I make sure to use only the locations that ALWAYS work. Some of the places I try to connect to like Midwest don't always connect so of course I'm not going to use it to base an account on.

ALSO IPBURGER is your best friend. In fact do not sign on an account just because your VPN says it is on, always check because I find about half of the time it isn't on.

And when you look up the location use a third party to look up the location, don't just base all your info off of what IPBURGER says.:spy:

VPNs work, just you have to go with a solid provider and a static private IP address. I'll take it a step further and use virtual PCs but that's something else.

Something else you can do is check your IP number to see if it has been blacklisted before you log on to ebay with it. This site provides of list of dns and ip registries and it runs your ip address through them and tells you if your ipaddress is registered on one of them. You can make your own decision on whether to log on or not and how many red flags (or exclamations) you need before you decide not to log on. But here is a free site that does it for you.

Blacklist Check

Re: Tips for using a VPN

Ideally you would like to have your own private IP if you use VPN. However, personally on many of my older stealth accounts from back in 08-09. I use VPN service which I share the IP Address. It is obviously not ideal. But I have always kept my account in good standing. Always paid my fees, etc on time. Never had a problem.

I will say however. If you are using a new stealth account it would probably not be ideal to use something like this. Given the 200/20k PayPal restrictions thus eBay sales restrictions. It has forced many of us to look for least costly options even if it means adding a bit of risk. I would not even consider doing this unless I had a two year old account with at-least 150+ selling feedback and high DSRs.

Also like everyone on the mentions. You have to have a VPN provider that is not on eBay's suspicious/black list.

Yes, VPNs can work.

However, I like to install a VPN client on my own private servers as I just can't trust VPN companies, the risk is way too high. A lot of hassle to find a reliable provider too.

Static ip is always better than dynamic as it has more credibility and you are sure your ip wasnt used before by somes stealth

If a VPN's network is tunneled trough, there is no problem. However, if the network is a split-tunnel, then there is a huge problem.

Re: Tips for using a VPN

Well I don't know what exactly is the difference between a tunneled or split but I haven't had any problems out of mine as far as Ebay detecting me, I recently had my limits increased.

With that said I am now all of a sudden having troubles with the vpn actually changing my IP address when I turn it on. It keeps saying it's on but my ip address stays the same. I contacted customer support and they say that with windows 8 they have software compat. problems now I'm trying to find a new vpn, if anyone has suggestions.
