PayPal Limitation Brand Risk Management

Hi all,

Had an eBay account that went down maybe 2-3 weeks ago, PayPal was fine and starting withdrawing funds and was just going to ditch the account.

Had an email from PayPal this morning limiting the account, I have never seen anything like it before so wondered if anyone could shed some light on it?

The items were only £9.99 and not a 'brand' so not quite sure what this means? About £500 limited in it as well which is slightly annoying..

We are hereby notifying you that, after a recent review of your account
activity, it has been determined that you are in violation of PayPal's
Acceptable Use Policy regarding your sales / offers on www.ebay.com.

Please refer to:
- Transaction XXXXX
- Transaction XXXXX
- Transaction XXXXX

Therefore, your account has been permanently limited.

Per the User Agreement, when PayPal permanently limits an account due to an
Acceptable Use Policy violation, we may hold your funds up to 180 days. We
will review your account at 30 days from the date of this email, we will
calculate our exposure and will release any excess funds to you for
withdrawal. If there are any funds remaining in your account at this time,
we will review your account every 30 days until either all your funds have
been made available to you for withdrawal, or a period of 180 days from the
date your account was limited is reached. Please log in to your PayPal
account and verify that your account information is accurate, as PayPal
cannot be held responsible for incorrect information provided by the
account holder.

You will need to remove all references to PayPal from your website/s and/or
auction/s. This includes not only removing PayPal as a payment option, but
also the PayPal logo and/or shopping cart.

The PayPal User Agreement states that PayPal, at its sole discretion,
reserves the right to limit an account for any violation of the User
Agreement, including the Acceptable Use Policy.

Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive
payments for items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right
of publicity or privacy, or any other proprietary right under the laws of
any jurisdiction. This includes transactions for counterfeit items or
unauthorized replicas or copies of items.

The complete Acceptable Use Policy can be found at the following URL:

To learn more about the Acceptable Use Policy, please refer to our Help
Centre page here:

We thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you have any questions,
please contact the PayPal Brand Risk Management Department at

Sincerely,
PayPal, Brand Risk Management

What it means is they will keep the balance for a max of 180 days. Your account will be reviewed every 30 days and they may release some of the money earlier.

I have had this on an account before. It got limited whilst experimenting with some overseas Paypals. All the funds (over £600) were released after just 30 days.

Thanks for this info. It said that three transactions had violated their user agreement, after looking at the transactions I couldn't see any issue with them. None of them had opened any cases and all had left good feedback...

All it takes is 1 transaction if PP decides that it's a violation - sadly.

180 day wait is correct.

Hopefully it won't be 180 day if they review every 30! Ah well, they got one of many

Speed reading again?

Please read what Ebayorbust wrote.

this is a limitation that is a little bit different from the norm. After the reviews, paypal could release funds.

When Brand Risk Management are the team involved this happens. Funds may only be held UP TO 180 days. That differs from your comment which implies release AFTER 180 days.

Just thought I would update, I had £500 limited and on the 30th day I received all of the money which was available for withdrawal except £64 - info for other users.

Let's all hope rsot reads this.

Then he can be in the know on the issue too.

Hope you are watching your items more closely
