How to change IP address faster
 

Anyone know how to get a new IP address faster than turning off the modem for 30 secs and waiting for it to reboot and reconnect? I hate having to turn off my modem and reboot everytime to get a new IP address. :tears: There's gotta be a faster way!!

You don't have to turn it off for 30 seconds. Leaving it off for 5 seconds and powering it back on is usually enough.

I've done that before and got the same IP address. I do 30 secs just to be safe and not have to wait time powering it off again.

I used to have the same with a previous modem, sometimes the IP wouldn't change.

We've just had fibre optic installed and the modem takes about 3 minutes just to boot back up, doesn't sound long but it is when you want to whip through accounts it can add up.

Because of that I now use a dongle for ebay, quicker changing and the dongle takes about 5 seconds to boot, and if anyone else wants to use eBay it won't clash with me.

Yep you should try a mobile broadband dongle.. Much faster with connecting.

I did a fast reset on my modem - it's wireless modem with my IP provider - didnt even wait now - unplugged and replugged the power - IP change was there

Mobile Internet dongle is pretty fast... phone tethering is fast as well.

I would discourage dialup.. :)

Go into your router settings and change the MAC address of your router. You will be assigned a new IP.

I use wifi tethering on a 4G device and can get 5 different ip addresses in less than 30 seconds...we all have a phone anyone, just use the tethering feature (some do charge for this so check with your plan provider). Also if your modem has an online control panel (accessed through 192.168.X.X), you might want to consider changing a digit of the mac address, I find that does the trick for me too, manage to get different ip all the time, but takes a smidge of a few seconds longer...

Ok thats the little thing that plugs into your USB port. Do I have to get one from my service provider or can you just buy one of these things somewhere?

You can get one from your cell phone company, ebay, amazon, or a similar website. It doesn't have to be from the same same cell company that you already have service with since you'll be paying an extra monthly fee to use it (you can try tethering your smartphone for a possible free option if you haven't already).

Mifi's are pretty good option and faster then the router option. I never tried a dongle.
Also tethering is easiest and fast, just click airplane mode wait a few seconds and unclick.

Just depends on the mobile phone/cell phone connection access

I use mifi and removing battery gives me a totally different range.... On/Off usually is only few numbers apart. I assume, just a guess, that disconnecting battery releases the lease faster.
