Paypal: SSN Now Mandatory for Every New Account?

Hi

I just tried creating a new Paypal account and when I click on "add money" I get the following message:

To meet regulatory requirements, we need some more information before you can transfer money to your account..

And then they give me two options:

1. Add SSN

2. Add TAX ID

Does this mean that any new account requires verification - which means stealth accounts are basically useless now?

So then Paypal stealth is over now? There is nothing to do correct? I recently created nearly a dozen stealth accounts and this would mean I have no use for any of them.. Correct?

Is this only for transferring money IN to the account? Would you still be able to sell to receive funds without ssn?

sorry was being sarcastic... they require ssn when u add funds to pp acct directly always. been like that for a while now,as far as I know.

OK.. you got me pretty scared. I never saw this message before. So just to confirm if I use my debit/credit card to pay for something via Paypal I do not need to go through this verification correct?

You an use your bank account or Credit/debit card to make payment. You simply cannot add funds directly to the account to increase your balance.

It's because, without identification, anyone could transfer money into PP accounts and move it wherever they wanted. That's called money lau.ndering and not le.gal. :)

Didn't need SSN, just created a PayPal and Ebay.
