Subpoena

Here's a new one.

I have a friend whose PP account was limited a couple of weeks back. I got on the phone as her and joshed around with the rep and the limitation was lifted.

She was limited again yesterday - and the limitation included the "this limitation may not be appealed."

When we called to ask about "why was my account limited. I provided all the information you asked for" etc. etc. etc. she was told that they could not give her any information, and if she wanted to know why she was limited she would have to serve PayPal with a subpoena.

Wow.

Something is going on, and we can't figure out what.

We are thinking it has to do with her supplier (foreign national) but why wouldn't they tell her that "we have questions about your supplier but cannot tell you anything more?

It sees like it may be the new answer tp the ongoing UK limitations. Makes a lot more sense and gives a definitive answer to eliminates future calls.

Re: Subpoena

Interesting.

Through a previously successful series of calls of my own I have a direct line to somebody who can actually make outside the box decisions.

We're going to try that route tomorrow.

Will be horrifying if the US goes the way of the UK. How are honest (yet need to be hidden) people going to be able to make a living?

Unless that claim is in writing it's nothing.

Did you get the name of the agent?

If your friend has issues tell her to join here.

We avoid third party chat because it can be misleading.

It is not above pp to tell you anything to blow you off, lie or just plain don't know for sure themselves. I have learned to always keep a note pad there and ask who am I speaking to.This has saved me soo many times and you get a rep that was more than helpful save their name when you call back just tell who ever answers to please connect you to ***
that you was talking to them and was disconnected earlier..

Yes, I always ask for a name before I even give them mine.

I do need to get my friend to join here - been singing the praises of the forum forever. Well, almost ever.

I'll report on the call with the "big wig" today.

Another interesting thing though - when I call in with my number blocked the system can still see my number. I had to call from her phone. How can they do that when I am blocking caller ID on my end?

It's something with their phone number. As a corporate entity they can pay extra to see anyone who calls them via a 1-800 number. The details were covered on these forums a few years ago.

yep see right through the call block even says I see you are calling from and then gives your ur number if this number is on your account press 1 lol better to use a calling card or hit a payphone if your home number is used on another account ..

Also before, I know you could use google voice to to call you then call them and host the call not sure anymore you can g00gle voice a call to another phone you have and see what number shows up ur "hidden number " or the google voice number

Re: Subpoena

You have to be careful of what phone number you use to call into paypal.

Applies for any of the main paypal platforms, USA, UK & Australia.

You have to be very careful.

Takes more than *67 to hide your number from them

Re: Subpoena

What is interesting is that I do not always get the "We see you are calling from X number" I will have to be a bit more cautious. I have a friend with a spoof card / account so she can appear to be calling from another number, I will have to get that - plus I have the requisite Google Voice accounts as well.

Re: Subpoena

Just as an FYI, this has been the PayPal party line for years. When my first account was limited, I was confused and wanted to know why. They told me that they do not divulge their security measures under any circumstances and the only way to get that information would be to file a lawsuit against them and request it through a subpoena or as a part of the "discovery" process.

I never pursued it, of course. I went stealth instead. I just wanted to let you know this is NOT a new thing.
