iPhone Tethering

Does it make sense to be able to have the iPhone connected to my home WiFi and being able to tether internet to my computer with a different IP? My iPhone has a "personal hotspot" settings tab already implemented. It does kicks off WiFi and uses LTE on my iPhone when I turn it on. I do not have unlimited internet and wouldn't like to use all my data up. Is there a 3rd party app that allows me to do this? Or is this impossible.

You have to jailbreak your device.

How many accounts have you got on the go then? for you to be worried about using up your data. I used my iPhone4s and tethered that to main computer occasionally, you may be on a more limited data package than I was on, but it worked fine and I got nowhere near data limits, before that account got suspended!

Re: iPhone Tethering

What you are asking for is impossible. The new IP comes from your phone's internet. There is no way to use the new IP on the phone with your household internet.

You will either have to pay the overage fees or get a larger data plan.

@jako, just for clarification - the phone is only being used as hotspot? Or also as the device for your eb/amazon/other platform sales?

Re: iPhone Tethering

oh, yes tetherme just allows you to tether using your phones data. I use tetherme daily with my unlimited data plan

most phone companies have shared data where tethering is free and just uses the same allocated data you pay for.

OP- up your data a little if even necessary. don't watch videos and mess around while stealth and you'll be fine.

and rsot brings up a good point.

Who is your carrier? I use to tether all the time with my jail broke iPhone years ago until I got letters/text messages from AT&T warning me they would void my unlimited plan if I continued. Not sure how they detected I had a jailbroken phone and was doing this but I quit as I value my unlimited plan. I am curious if things have changed? Would love to use my phone over paying for my Verizon hotspot.

ok guys. you cant tether from the regular settings because phone companies can see that and think you are abusing data.

if you have a unlocked phone you can download tether-me which makes it look like normal use from your actual phone. No extra charges.

Now as far as this switching your IP. I don't see how. :focus:

Re: iPhone Tethering

My iPhone4s is not jailbroken but I have tethered from it with no problem at all as recently as about 3/4 months ago, I have done that via orange and ee, they couldn't care less, I even rang them up and asked them about it, just get on with it was their response, maybe things are different in the US and your mobile phone carriers won't let you tether as easily as we can over here in the UK, but it really is the easiest thing to doing over here, and as for getting a new IP address, just put it into airplane mode, I used to turn off cookies as well, definately got a new IP address when I turned airplane mode off and cookies back from the site I was visiting only, which of course can be done on iPhones
