PayPal Wants Last 4 of SSN When Registering
 

So I went to create my stealth PayPal account and I got a screen that basically says the Patriot Act requires financial institutions to confirm identity and they want the last 4 of my SSN and my date of birth.

It was right after the page asking what kind of stuff you are going to sell which is not even to the point of entering financial info yet.

I don't think I've ever seen this. Are they actually going to verify the information I enter with the government and see if it matches?

Why would you even think of supplying the SSN at this point in the 1st place.

It's just a page with a place to enter DOB and last 4 of SSN. Then a submit button.

It's not like I can bypass it. I didn't enter anything.

I'm wondering why it is asking me for this. It doesn't seem like other people have had this happen.

OK. So I read those links. So it seems like it can be random. Is all the info I used to create my account burned?

It's just my e-mail, name, address and phone number.

I was able to just go back to PayPal and it didn't ask me for it. But it seems like whenever you try to do something (confirm e-mail address, etc.) it asks you again (which you can ignore and just go to PayPal).

Never seen that happen before.
Any chance you could attach a screenshot when it happens to you next?

It happens all the time for business accounts. As I said in one of those posts GB posted, you can enter any four digits. One of two things will happen. It will go through and be fine or they will only allow you to withdraw the first $100 you receive every month until you confirm your identity.

They ask for DOB and last four so you can verify your account incase it gets hijacked.

PP makes it seem like you need to do this by putting it in front of your face. Just click the PP logo on the top left. It'll take you to the homepage.



(The Patriot act message usually pops up when you create a business account.)
(when creating a personal it sometimes ask for Social And Dob to apply for credit. This is how they getcha! and REMEMBER


(MAKE A NOTE OF THE LAST 4 You used if you made one up, for future references. Because they willl ask you for your last 4 if you ever call in.)
