A look into VPS - Geolocation and such
 

While messing around on the Geocoder.ca website attempting to obtain the closest street address of my VPS IP I noticed the website was capable of obtaining my true location, and even providing driving directions between the two points.

So at the moment feeling not very anonymous. Using some sort of tracert it appears Geocoder.ca can find my true origin. obviously, any website should be able to do the same. Yes/No ?

I was using the chrome browser and did NOT have to click the allow location button.

I would say you are leaking and probably leaking DNS most likely do a https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ and see if your leaking if your not leaking check your flash, flash and Java can leak your IP as well.

Wow. Thanks. I ran the test and I certainly have a huge DNS leak. any recommendations on how to get this fixed? basically, all the servers listed were my local services on my IPS. based on this statement I dont believe that should be so.

"If you are connected to a VPN service and ANY of the servers listed above are not provided by the VPN service then you have a DNS leak and are choosing to trust the owners of the above servers with your private data."

Well, maybe some success here. It appears my IPS can some how impose its DNS service even when im connected to the VPS, thus revealing at least my true ISP network. by manually changing to openDNS I seem to be able to shut it down. Something to consider for many people using VMware.

good job and make sure all 3 dns setttings are filled in or it will always pull your ISP DNS and show your location. I take beers and cigarettes as payments or just a thanks! LOL good luck

Posts like this always make me paranoid as hell.
Just when I think "I'm well stealth now, surely I'm getting things right" something like this pops up and I start ANOTHER research cycle down the rabbithole.
