| | | | | NewYork | 08-19-2015 01:15 AM | Is there any chance to resurrect 0/00 unsuspended accounts? I have a few accounts that are aged about 5 years- (forgotten, actually) and I went to list on single low-risk item on it, (after a few days of browsing and bids) and to my shock I got the first 0/0 I ever had in YEARS. PP has a bank on it, Verizon phone confirmed with text, etc. One of the options is (other than calling them) to link to an existing seller account. I realize that it may bring my other account limits down a bit, and it would spread out my limit before it would double it, but it seems worth it to me to have two older accounts even if they are linked since I prefer to spread out my items over a few accounts (to avoid detection by competitors).
Has anyone done this to get an aged account with 0/00 limits going again? Once you sell something, anything of any value, you're twice as good to go on to the next, and the next, and so on...
Anyone have success with fixing an older account with random 0/00 limits? By connecting it or updating the info to something that will check out with an online verification look? |

Just give them a call. Most likely they are concerned that your account was hijacked by some hacker. Clear it up and you should be set. |
| NewYork | 08-19-2015 08:12 PM | Re: Is there any chance to resurrect 0/00 unsuspended accounts? Just a follow up, I called in and maybe it was a random lazy person, or maybe it was because of the type of reason it was 0/00'd, but with NO verification questions, just asking the same info that is on the account (such as to confirm the address, DOB, etc) and I got a 10/1000 limit. Very easy. So depending on the reason you get 0/00'd, you might want to make the effort to call in, for me it was a simple and quick call and I am up and selling on the account. This was the first time they didn't even try to give me the "public records" questions, it was quick and easy. Just FYI's.... |

It depends on how YOU act. Are you acting nervous? Are you stuttering? Do you sound confident?
THESE things affect how the rep reacts and whether you get the issue resolved. They aren't psychics, but they can read basic social cues.
If you're getting limited when you call, stop acting shady. I have NEVER had a rep limit or otherwise negatively affect any of my accounts, and I've been calling eBay for over 5 years, hundreds of calls collectively. |

If you are paranoid and believe that the eBay rep is an evil boogyman who is hell-bent on destroying you, that's what you'll find.
If you're a normal, socially adept individual who treats the rep as a regular joe trying to do his or her job, they will treat you the same way. It's very simple. |
| miketyson | 08-19-2015 09:49 PM | Re: Is there any chance to resurrect 0/00 unsuspended accounts? Nice follow up. More people need to take some sociology classes to truly understand how to deal with people. Hermits hiding, druggies, high anxiety, and others are the ones failing. |
| NewYork | 08-19-2015 10:30 PM | Re: Is there any chance to resurrect 0/00 unsuspended accounts? I agree- I don't ever remember calling in nervous or angry and getting good results. I think it's a mixture of why the problem was triggered, and the rep's impression of you. Sometimes when getting a PP courtesy release on a payment, I've gotten an overseas person who was just thrilled to have the power to do me the favor that I was humbling asking for help with (I've had some turn me down even though I know they can do at least one curtiousy hold per pp account). More than once I got a "no" for something and immediately wished I asked in a nicer way or wasn't preoccupied with something else and letting it come through. Sometimes they want to be helpful and sometimes they want to show you who's in charge. It's a mixture of things, but your demeanor absolutely plays a HUGE part in the math of things. |

Also, this extends FAR beyond just eBay. When dealing with ANYONE over the phone, your credit card company, cell phone provider, car rental agents, etc etc....being POLITE, NICE, and making FRIENDLY SMALL TALK will get you a LOT of free upgrades, perks, and discounts.
I can't even count how many times I've had free upgrades to rental cars, overdraft fees refunded, late payments removed and forgiven, etc etc.
A recent example is with my Chase bank account. I previously had mine attached to a business associate, who happens to be a military veteran. Although our accounts were separate, by being associated, I was able to have free checking without jumping through the hoops usually associated with it.
Long story short, my associate closed his account with Chase, meaning I started getting a monthly $12 "service fee". I called up customer service and explained the issue, and the rep was able to permanently disable the fee, without me doing anything differently. It's been 4 months, and not once have I seen the service fee again.
Why did he do this? Because I was polite, patient, and friendly. You would be AMAZED at the bull-sh!t people who deal with customer service over the phone deal with on a daily basis. They are so happy just to talk to a friendly human being that they will often bend-over backwards out of gratitude for you being a decent conversationalist. |

I been accused of having LA accent. The other LA as in Lower Alabama. I might want to kill the person but they never know it as I will kill them with kindness unless they step over very high bar. I much rather write letter but all people I used to write to 6 feet under. Thankfully get lots of telemarketers to be nice to if they call at right moment. |

When you have a 0/0 account, why not call in. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. According to GoA, he has had a lot of success calling in. Maybe ebay has finally chillaxed on the whole database questions. I also believe your personality has a lot to do with it when calling in. I like playing the "nice and stupid" role. Some things just come naturally :) |

That's the key. THAT'S what determines whether or not they feel the need to ask the database questions.
I am 99% certain eBay policy allows the reps discretion in deciding whether or not they ask the questions, as most of my calls DON'T get them. (this is about 60%, not 95%, to clarify). When I DO get the questions, a lot of the time they'll give me an increase anyways (I "play dumb", as bjammin suggests). And when they don't, I just say thanks, hang up, and call again. Works like a charm! |
| Callidus | 08-22-2015 05:32 AM | Re: Is there any chance to resurrect 0/00 unsuspended accounts? FYI - eBay and PayPal systems do log when you last called and can clearly see if you have been speaking to 5 different reps in the last 3 minutes. Not advised for established accounts! |

If one finds themselves in that situation, one can always tell the next rep that the phone disconnected/cut off and you rang back straight away :) |

It's never caused me any problems, but of course, that doesn't mean that problems are impossible to occur. |
| Speeder33 | 08-23-2015 08:02 AM | Re: Is there any chance to resurrect 0/00 unsuspended accounts? Call more than once in a short amount of time and ebay may redirect you to the same rep. Ebay says its a "convenience" for sellers that get disconnected or don't want to start the phone call over. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 12:46 PM. | |
