Ip location

Hello,
I received message from PayPal before 10 days that says:

"Important – We noticed unusual activity in your PayPal account

What's going on?

We noticed a login to your PayPal account from an unusual location and are concerned about potential unauthorized account access. bla bla bla""

Now I need to receive automated call, text message or upload ID to remove the limits.

I look at my VPN geolocation and when I give access to the site to view my location it shows: Brunei :pout: When I see my location in googlemaps it shows the same. When I dont give permission it shows USA. So my question : Is it that normal? I tried another vpn's I have and they give error when I try to locate. Can PayPal view my geolocation and that is the reason for that limitation or? I will try to pass it with ID:spy: Thanks for all advices

Re: Ip location

Maybe you are leaking DNS info.

Do a DNS Leak Test to see.

Re: Ip location

There are some applications that can use your WiFi to try to locate you. I think that the problem might be your VPN dropped in mid-session and PayPal saw whatever IP you were really on. That is not 100% for sure, it is just a guess.

I always recommend that everyone use a VPN monitor to be certain this does not happen. VPNcheck is a good one, and it is free. If your VPN connection is lost for whatever reason, it immediately cuts ALL traffic so that nothing is revealed.

When you click the "yes" button to give something permission to do something, that is usually giving them whatever access they need to see what they are looking for. So, by giving them permission to access something, they were probably able to geolocate you. An IP address, in and of itself, does not reveal it's location. The IP location databases are only as good as the information contained in them. Just because an IP database has your IP address listed in Los Angeles, for example, does not really mean that you are located in Los Angeles. IP addresses change hands all the time, and quite often, the databases are out of date.

What eBay or PayPal sees is probably what you see when you DO NOT give any special permissions.

The other possibility is that someone has obtained the information for your account and really DID try to log on from Brunei.

Just to be safe should set your DNS to Google or Open DNS - https://developers.google.com/speed/...cs/using?hl=en
