2017 All PayPal users need to give SSN Rumor
 

My best friend runs a pretty big ebay store, he called PayPal today and the agent said as of January 2017 all PayPal accounts will need a SSN. Don't know if he misheard or the agent was mistaken, but he's a pretty smart guy and he gave me a call as soon as he got off the phone with them.

One thing I've learned while on this Forum is......Not gonna worry about it until it's official. Who knows thought, if they want an SSN...will we get our funds instantly like the UK? that be nice.

Given US bank accounts can be attached to nearly every other country's Paypal, I don't know why this would be perceived as an issue even if it does transpire.

You believe a paypal costumer service rep? Seriously?
Those monkeys get paid minimum wage and they dont know a fraction about how things are being run there.
There is no way paypal will demand the SSN for the simple reason they will lose a LOT of business as a result from people refusing to give up that info. Given the fact other countries are not subjected to such measures just ensures this will never happen.

Paypal would lose so much business given how many they have banned with their SSN attached to their paypal accounts. Besides they are a public traded company now, I think they are, and shareholders want growth. DOnt want to disappoint those shareholders.

If ssn# willbe a must, they will loose half of their customers.

He called PP....what an agent says is gibberish most of the time - until I see it in WRITING, I won't believe them. These agents are known to make stuff up to get info

not sayin its not possible... but believing a pp rep is like believing a crak head when he says he needs to borrow some money to buy diapers (unless diapers is slang for crak:suspicious:)

In Canada, a company (ie Paypal) can't force us to give our SSN, it's by our laws!

True, but there are so many "⊗⊗⊗⊗ Canadians" on Paypal and eBay making our system not any easier either at this point
