Need Help! Google Opens Other Country than VPN's IP

Hey guys,

This is probably a newbie problem but couldn't figure out where am I making a mistake.

Problem is that I use VPN's IP for Moscow but when I open Google it shows Google UK. It didn't happen before for other IPs although I didn't change the setup(probably!). Somehow Google sees that I'm located in UK.

Here is my set up;

- Window 8.1
- I opened a new user
- I use a VPN service that found on Google(didn't make a problem for me before).
- I use Guavi in case VPN goes offline, setup DNS servers to Google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
- I use Firefox

I run a test on ipleak.net and shows no other ip other than VPN's ip or DNS server. But where is this UK google page coming from?

Head to https://www.iplocation.net/ and see if it sees you in Russia or UK. IP address geolocation isn't perfect, perhaps the geolocation database Google is using thinks it's in UK.

Tried both iplocation.net and ipburger.com and shows nothing but Moscow ip. And now I realize that the same situation for my Estonia account. Comes again Google UK.

What could possibly be the problem?

Maybe someone will come by and say I'm wrong, but I think at this point, only Google would be able to know why. I think there's nothing you can do, except try an IP in a different block.

I contacted to my VPN provider and they have advised me to change VPN tunnelling procotol to L2TP. It was auto before. It seems that problem has been solved now.

Any thoughts about L2TP? Is it ok with stealth?

L2TP is fine for stealth.

And I have seen this with Google from time to time. Every geolocation database in the world will show the account in, say, Chicago USA. But somehow Google thinks you are in Indonesia, or some other country.

This is most likely because Google once saw that IP associated with that country. But IP's get re-assigned. Google does not care. You CAN force Google to use the country of your choice from the Search Preferences menu, although in the bottom right hand corner it will say something like "Search on Google Estonia Instead".

I have never had this cause any issues with a stealth account, as this is only a Google issue. I wish they would get their act together. The most common complaint is from people who have traveled outside their home country and returned, only to see that Google now wants to use the country they visited even though they have since returned home.
