Smell like scam... I am not shipping the item.

I sold one of my items to this guy. He paid straight away but left me a message to ship to another address than PayPal one.

I answered to the message telling him I was sorry but I am only shipping to his PayPal address.

He replied pretending to not understand (he doesn't seems to speak english...).

He is not answering to my messages anymore since 3 days.
To me it smells like scam and I have decided not to ship my item to the guy.
I'd rather prefer to refund his money. No problem I will sell it again for sure, not a big loss.

What is the best way to handle this?

I guess it will be hard to manage and agree to cancel the transaction since he is not replying. I do not want a negative fdbk either.

Should I just mark the item as shipped (without shipping) and then, when he will complain as "item non received" give him the refund?

Ideas are welcome.

Thanks.

Re: Smell like scam... I am not shipping the item.

If in doubt, cancel. Better to protect yourself than be scammed.

The best way to do it is to go to the resolution centre, click on 'the buyer and I agree to cancel a transaction'

Type in your item number and the transaction appears. Then give the reason 'there is an issue with the buyers address or the buyer asked to cancel'

Your refund will be instant and you get your fees back with no defect or waiting around. You are open to receiving negative feedback this way but under the circumstances eBay should remove it.

If your resolution centre doesn't work like this (I know they are often different country to country), then you can sign in to the UK site and see if works for you.

NEVER invite an INR if you have the chance to avoid it.

Is this an international sale?

Should be able to sign into ebay com and follow the advice from just_smile.
or
Of course, it was SO very lucky you found the damage to the very last stock you had before you sent it. Refund in hand now

I like the "damage item" route, do I have to do it via resolution center? Using 'the buyer and I agree to cancel a transaction'?
or... how?

Re: Smell like scam... I am not shipping the item.

I found the page where I can cancel the order in the resolution center with the following reason: "out of stock or can't fulfill the order for other reason"

Is this correct?

If you choose that option you will receive a defect.

It should give you the option I previously mentioned, which won't result in a defect.

Why not go down the tell it like it is route, that buyer contacted wanting delivery to alternate not recognised by PayPal address so you are cancelling as you would not be protected by PayPal should delivery issues arise.

Hope you chose the buyer as the reason for the cancel request or you received a defect for it.
If the guy is a scammer as you suspect (and it does sound like he is) then he wouldnt leave a feedback. Those types are trying to steal from you and dont care to waste time on anything else. I myself just cancel the transaction immediately in such a situation choosing the reason to be the buyer asked for the cancelation. He gets his money and I get my fees back and the thing is done with.

This is not a confessional.

No need to give more info than needed when viable options work.

Re-read the OP. Seller wants to end the deal with the lest amount of fuss.

Just_smile's option will do.

All parties win. (Being the seller and ebay. Buyer does not meet the selling criteria on the basis of being ignorant of rules!).

The End.

PS.... Block the uneducated buyer too!

Cancel trans "problem with address". He will scam you. In case of ivestigation they will look to the address where you were SUPPOSED to ship to

Re: Smell like scam... I am not shipping the item.

I did exactly what just_smile suggested. The reason for cancellation was "there is an issue with the buyers address or the buyer asked to cancel".

just_smile wisely suggested this would not lead to a defect and eBay will stand by my side in case of negative feedback since they can verify I have been asked to ship to an unregistered address.

Very good move on blocking the bidder from future sale-ruination.

f it was a cheap item I do not see the problem... you had a small loss and learned a very useful lesson.

It happened to me in the past to be scammed like you, way before being on this forum... that one was a big loss.

if it is cheap post it, if not take your defect...your choice though make the decision you feel most comfortable with and deal with any consequences when or if they come
