How much does eBay know?
 

Hello,

I have a question about avoiding being linked to a banned account

How much can eBay's cookies see? I have a separate user account on my home laptop that I will use solely for my new stealth eBay account. However, I'm wondering this: If I use my work computer to check my new eBay account, will eBay know if I am signed into the Google account of my old account (banned account used primary email address that I still use for everyday email). Does being signed into Chrome with the email address of my banned account show up in cookies that Google has access to, making it so that they link my old email address to my new eBay account? Just to be clear, I have never logged into my banned eBay nor banned Paypal account on my work computer.

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

eBay can only see their own cookies and that of companies they own (although its a bit more complex than that)

If you want to be safe I would stick to using your stealth account on 1 device using an IP that you control.

If you want to check sales ect then have a look at the emails with images disabled

eBay can see:

-cookies that they've sent you, they CAN'T see cookies from another websites like Google, Amazon, Facebook etc.
-your EXTERNAL IP, that you can see when you check Google for "my ip". They CANT see your internal LAN IP, your MAC address, your computer name, any low-level system info etc.

A website can fairly easily see your visited websites but not cookies. Cookies are encrypted because this is where your credentials are stored.

You cannot view the emails with images if you are not logged into the correct user account or using the correct IP.

Along these same lines.... what about an iPhone/iPad? If it's erased and you get a new SIM, is it possible they collected device data? I know they can't if you stick with a browser, but couldn't they if you loaded and logged into their app?

They see everything, but if they did more security they would be in ruins fast & they know this.

IF you are not logged into any account how reading emails from eBay will be a problem? I have more than 5 accounts and every day I'm checking ebay emails on my no ebay user, I don't think they link them:nono:

Are you disabling images and beacons when you check your e-bay emails?

No. Why to do that when I'm not signed-in to any eBay account and will not sign in from that Windows user. I don't think eBay can see my ip from my readings of GMAIL messages and connect all accounts. More that 2-3 years I do that without issues. I read every message on any account on my phone too.

We always recommend to never use iphone that has had ebay app if you have a new account.

Yes, I agree. I'm sure that they gather a bunch of info as it is, but the apps give them a whole different level of access to the device info.
