Who can explain all the digits in IP address mean?

How accurate is the IP address related to real GPS location?

When I post this post, I leave my ip on this forum, right?

VPN is good thing, at least for something?

I know ebay/pp donot like VPN to locate you.

IP address is not that accurate. Sometimes can show your location 100Km away from where you actually are.

in any case it is very reliable as far as "country" is concerned.

Re: Who can explain all the digits in IP address mean?

The digits in an IP address do not really mean something. But all the digits in a specific order translate into an address...192.168.168.1 is just like the number address of your house. But 192.168.168.1 has been assigned by your ISP to you (it's how your ISP identifies you in his network and also how you identify yourself on the internet)...the number of your house has been assigned by the city hall. While the number of your house will be valid for a long period of time, your IP address may be changed much sooner, and that's whenever the ISP wants.
Some ISP's register your name and your address in a database and correlate it with a certain IP that you will be using for a period of time. Other ISP's will give you a temporary address which wil lchange as soon as you go offline (your router will go oflline).
So, the IP address doesn't really correlate with a physical location. Blocks of IPs (eg: 192.0.0.1 - 192.256.256.256) will correlate most of the times with your country and sometimes with your area/ city.

When you access any kind of website (including this forum) your IP address is visible.

When you use a VPN, your IP address is invisible. What any website will see is the IP of the VPN server you are using. But if you subscribe to a well-known VPN, ebay, for example, will know that you are using a VPN because...guess what...they have subscribed to all the major VPN's, too and they are able to see all the IP blocks these VPN providers are using at any given time. Not to mention that many other ebay/ amazon stealth users are using the major VPN providers, therefore the chances to connect with a blacklisted IP are higher with the major VPN providers.
That's why everybody on this forum will tell you to avoid the major VPN providers.

Thanks.

1. Avoid vpn for eBay Amazon.

2. So same IP address can reused by other people, right? The number of ip addresses are limited , right

2. Yes but IP is NOT the only limiting/suspension factor - sure if you use free/overabused services it can be problematic but if you go with standard cell phone tethering...dongles...IP providers...you can do well - keep track of your IPs

VPN / VPS are perfectly fine and are a great solution for a lot of people to use for amazon/ebay/paypal etc tons of users here use them you just have to pick a reliable company and get a dedicated ip

as for geo tracking its not that accurate, you dont really have to worry about that

@wasaby, HOLY IMAGES BATMAN!

@incniu, speak to seller of 24 VPN. Lot of posts on the forum discuss IP. US IP would show up as being in USA.
