What Happened When Paypal Called My Supplier...

Ok so i called Paypal to get the limitation removed because all of the items showed delivery confirmation. They transferred me to the limitation department and this lady asked me again about my supplier contact info. Like i mentioned in the other post i had the wrong number on the invoice. So i supplied a new number to them for them to call. The number is routed back to my cell number. She told me hold and then i had an incoming call from Paypal. O snap! So i answered changed my voice and pretended to be the company. They asked the following questions:

What does the company sell?
Does the company have a website?
What is the address?

Then they said they are calling in reference to a mutal client and gave the invoice number i supplied. I told them to hold so i can look it up (lol). They then asked the following questions:

What is the client name and address?

I hesitated and asked them again the reasoning for me giving out personal info about clients. They assured me it was 'safe' and they had confirmation from the buyer (me) to contact the supplier. (I was trying to make it natural as possible). They also asked exactly what was on the invoice and quantity amount.

The conversation lasted about 3mins. They said thanks and that was it. I switched back to the next line and the rep came back didnt mention anything about contacting the supplier...she just asked a few followup questions about them. To cut a long story short they reinstated my account. But the lady i dealt was definitely intense with her questions, i felt like i was on trial. She evened asked me How i found out the company since they didnt have a website. Jeez.

So just a tip make sure be prepared when you call them, i usually have all information cascaded on the screen. It doesnt prove they will call all suppliers but the fact is...they do for some.

Cheers

Hopefully that was just one intense paypal employee like you said. I thought they verified everything on the invoice like the address, website, and phone number to make sure that it matches the actual business.

This is all good to know.

Another thing to think of. Paypal gets hundreds if not thousands of customers appeal paperwork everyday. Theres no possible way they could call and verify each one.

And also what if the employee was new or unfamiliar with the area Paypals asking about? What if the person who can answer what Paypal asks is gone for the day? They cant wait and keep trying to recheck.

So Im hoping its still random.

Im certain they wont call all suppliers thats pretty impossible. I think its more for items that are considered 'high risked'.

Burst 02-05-2009 04:07 PM

IE - Vero items... ?

divine422 02-05-2009 04:58 PM

No, not necessarily just high priced items, especially depending on the sales volume on a young account.

This is a great post by MissDivine:D I would suggest that everyone read it carefully and take on board her information.
Orion, I do not think any of us can 'define' what items make an account come under scrutiny, therefore a better way is to be aware that paypal may/can and does check info on an account. Anyone here has to use the forum & keep on top of changes. It is important to be prepared to deal with this happening. For any doubters, let me give you a couple of examples. When you studied at school
or college, you had to know your subject or when you played sport,
you had to have skills and knowledge of your opponent. Paypal is this and worse, paypal tries to take our money. Plan to beat them.

Yes, that is VERY VERY helpful to know! Thank you!

Wow... hardcore PayPal!

Thanks divine422, good information.

And sly moves on your part, good work!

Burst 02-06-2009 08:01 PM

Just posting to confirm that is had to of been a hardcore employee. Someones account that was recently asked for SSN, DL, Utility Bill, Invoices, Supplier information just got restored with real company name invoices and phone numbers.

divine422 02-07-2009 03:02 PM

Thats understandable but it still doesnt negate the fact the it has happened. It being a hardcore employee has nothing to do with it because this was my the second paypal rep i spoke with on this limitation that discussed phoning my supplier. No ones saying its happening to all accounts obviously.

Burst 02-08-2009 11:27 AM

I know. Im just putting that out there.

GreenBean 02-08-2009 05:18 PM

But saying 'just to confirm it must have been a hardcore employee' implies to less knowledgeable users that it is not going to happen & it was a one-off event. Not quite a fact;)
