For what it's worth, here is some info on an account that got suspended last year.
Looking in retrospect, I know what I did wrong (below), and I know what I did right (everything else)
1. Used a bad address (so I had no mail recovery from that location) Thought eBay would never mail me anything. (they did- the powerSeller welcome) So this mailpiece was bounced back - undeliverable
If I were working for T&S, and mail got bounced back, I'd probably give the guy 100 points on the risk scale.
2. used a bad phone nr. ( must be idiotic --same logic as for the first one--they'd never call me --this is looking more like a sitcom now)...
Actually it was a good phone number, from a web based free voice mail provider, but the provider went out of business very soon, and I knew it...but didn't bother to update the phone info.
eBay did attempt to call me ( to inform me of new seller features), then emailed me about the wrong phone nr. DUH, "T&S, chalk up another 100 risk points to this moron" --Now this account lasted for 2 years, 1.5 years of which AFTER these incidents !! ( sitcom

)
3. Always came into eBay with no cookies, no Flash player, different IP, and all email read as text, so never a web beacon returned to eBay. All the signs of a true thief. (this was not my first time stealthing) More risk points here.
4. Credit card on file consistently failing. Paid all ebay fees with One-time-Paypal payments, which occurred very often AFTER ebay had already tried to hit the credit card on file and GOT DECLINED --because it was a $100 gift card and my bills were $600 and up. Pure negligence on my part. Unforgiveable. "Give him more risk points Johnny"
5. My listings contained links outside eBay, although not to a site where I sold anything, but still borderline policy violation. And they contained IMAGE links; that's text which is actually an image file served from an outside server, which could be changed on the fly. Naughty, naughty, more points, please.
Never got a violation for this, but would have come up under a full review.
6. Never explicitly linked a Paypal account to eBay , although I was repeatedly invited to do so. But I obvoiusly linked them by paying eBay fees from a paypal account. DUH.. Paypal acct was clean, but nevertheless, atypical behaviour, especially for a heavy seller who also lists on foreign eBay sites.
7. Paypal account under different name and different address than eBay account. Wait...! Did you know I had an explanation for that ? I really did.
8. Account ended up with about 4 different addresses, (active at same time)
This stemmed from the necessity to have items shipped to an accessible address. And then to my office. And then to my home (for convenience, of course) OH, well that's because I was also a BUYER on eBay, wouldn't you know it. Why should I bother going to my PO box to get my stuff?
And one of these addresses was previously used with a suspended account. (WHAT??) And this is a guy who has gotten booted a few times, and came back a few times, so he should know better, right? Well the account survived well over 12 months AFTER this. Give some negative points to T&S, they're not doing their job!
9. I called eBay customer service (the powerseller line) 10+ times over the course, even though I knew you should never call eBay for ANY reason when you're flying stealth. I even lost my temper with them on several occasions and made a fuss.
10. Often added positive adjustments to eBay checkout invoices, an indication of additional items sold off-eBay and combined on same invoice (that's exactly what they were)
11. Never entered a single tracking number in Paypal's records.
Now, during my last call to eBay (for a trivial thing, like automated checkout not calculating the correct total in some cases), the agent could not figure out the solution to this problem. She escalated it to higher personnel, and after leaving me on hold for 10 minutes, came back stating that the higher personnel would look at the problem, and , in the process, they would review may account.
Now the word REVIEW triggered some doomsday images in my mind, but I remained clam and thanked her for addressing the issue.
She then said, again, that they would REVIEW my account.
And then, again, that they would CONDUCT A FULL REVIEW of my account.
Now anybody who repeats this twice even after I told her I understood, is REALLY trying to tell me something.
( " Wrap up your business, tie up your loose ends, get ready...")
She could obviously see the cummulative risk score of my account on her screen.
7 days later the account was "limited", not suspended, but limited.
It's actually the same to me, since I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
I have no explanation for this..
I mean, why it lasted 2 years.
But it's quite possible that if your seller dashboard data is excellent throughout, your star rating impecable, and you drop thousands upon thousands of dollars into eBays lap, the whole system becomes more tolerant.
Good reason to do good out there.
Cheers
