Frozen PP / Was hacked. Any options?
 

So someone hacked a stealth paypal account of mine, proceeded to change all the info on the account including the email login. They then tried to make a purchase and got the account frozen. Now I call them up and go over everything and tell them I was hacked, etc etc.

Long story short, she says that cool, we need proof of ID, proof of address and then we can unfreeze the account. But first before I can change the email addy back and new password I need to ask you some special security questions in a public database before we go forward. First question is whats the last four of your social. I hang up.

Are those funds stuck in the account? Do I have any options at all?

The account is gone, if you call back their going to want to continue their database questions.

All activity on that account will be restricted in their system until you provide what they want.

ok, thats fine, not a huge deal... my concern now is about the funds in the account, is there anyway for me to get to them? The ****tiest part about this, was I was literally logging in to confirm the micro deposits on the bank account. So the bank account hasnt been confirmed.

Yes, i would have to say that your account is pretty much locked but good now. Pretty common mistake though, dont feel bad, hell it had me laughing, been there. :brick:

Even if the funds are locked for 180 days, you might not be able to get the funds out after that.

Why didn't you just give them random 4 numbers? You could have passed even with getting one wrong cause its public database.....

should i call them back? what are the database questions? the name is made up if the last four of the social is made up, how exactly are they going to have any questions?

If they cant find any info that matches you on public record they will ask first about the info already on the account. The problem is that you are calling them saying that the account was hacked AND information has been changed. The information that you could have given them is pretty much invalid because of the security breach you told them about. Any new information that was changed on the account , well, you couldn't answer because your locked out. As far as other questions they might ask, hows this? I can hear it now, "we need you to submit XXXXX documents", and then when we are not satisfied, ask you to send more. So you may have options, but without interacting with PP directly I have to say they seem pretty slim. I would love to hear any suggestions anyone else may have, this would be a good learning opportunity.:noidea:
