VUMBERS DEAD - NEXT METHOD to VERIFY EBAY

Since Vumber is dead, people will need new methods to verify their accounts.

People have been reporting that Mal-Wart have Tracfones for $9.87 that come with 20 minutes for free. This entitles you to ONE new phone number.

However, you can call tracfone and say youre moving to a residing state. They will then change your phone number completely including area code. You can keep going back and forth between states to get new numbers.

All WITHOUT BURNING MINUTES.

Hope this helps people get back on their feet after Vumbers fall.

HWGA Inumbr's have extensions. I thought you couldn't use those with Ebay?

Here We Go Again 03-03-2009 09:54 PM

HUMMMMM.......

Great point...

Option #1...... NO GO

Who is up for Option #2?

lakeman 03-03-2009 09:59 PM

I use an At&t prepaid phone, I got it used off Ebay for $9 including shipping. I added $100 to it, I know it's a lot, but if you add $100 the minutes last 365 days. That's a little under $8.50 a month, cheaper then Vumber was. Before I purchased the minutes I asked an At&t rep. if I could change my number at any time and have my remaining minutes transfered to my new number, I was told "yes we can do that", I haven't had to get a new number yet, so I can't verify they will but they say they will do it.

Also for every $100 you add you get a $5 credit, and you get a $10 credit if you add more then $25 to your account within 7 days of activating it. So I got $115 worth of minutes for $100.

I did the Wal-Mart throwaway phone for a while but it got annoying.

We have to find another online call forwarding system that is cheap if not free.

lakeman 03-03-2009 10:10 PM

Yeah I agree, if you have more then 2 of those phones I could see how it could be annoying and confusing.

I've been searching for the past week and can't find any other virtual number providers. Anyone know of any?

Snagga 03-03-2009 10:14 PM

i get boost sims off ebay $5 shipped with 50mins on them good for 90 days

lakeman 03-03-2009 10:18 PM

Snagga, That sounds like a good price. I wonder if they have At&t sim loaded with minutes?

I saw Toll Free Numbers, Virtual PBX, Business Phone Service - Virtual Phone System by RingCentral has local numbers for $9.99 a month.

doughboykilla 03-03-2009 10:41 PM

I tried inumbr:: Auto expiring. FREE anonymous phone numbers for online safety. a bit ago and it worked i got the call it just that ebay hung up before i got to answare it cause u got to go through a automated message first.

Theres other methods but it would'nt be safe at all to post it here cause they will find out and just pay them off to block there number.

aquariusvc 03-07-2009 11:13 AM

Tracfones can't use if you not is US :(
anyone have other ways like vumber forwarding phone

RobFagles 03-13-2009 05:35 PM

RingCentral give you an 800 number.

They give it to you for $120/year and up, depending on minutes. They also use extensions, which won't work with verification, but I don't know if you can choose to have no extensions, just the main number.

lakeman 03-14-2009 08:26 AM

I'm not sure about Paypal, but I know you can use an extension with Ebay, there is a box that says ext. when entering your phone number.

now 03-14-2009 10:29 AM

I have 4 cell phones registered to me. Can't I just use a phone which has a number i have not used before? Or will they verify the name on the account against suspended users?

Also my phone company says I can change my cell number for just $15. If I only need a new working number to me, wouldn't that work? Again I guess the issue is them verifying my name and address on the bill, but wouldn't that be a privacy violation?

Thanks for your assistance.

lakeman 03-14-2009 10:52 AM

Yes you can use a phone registered to a different name then your Ebay/Paypal account. I have done it with no problems.

The phone is registered to my real name. Is that ok?

Based on advice here I have opened a new bank account at a new bank for me in my real name of course, and I am going to use a UPS store as an address. I was going to use this unused phone that is in my name for a phone number. So that covers phone, address and bank.

I was going to put my ebay and paypal account under a slight variation of my real name such if my name was William Smith, going with Billy Smythe or even B.M. Smith, using my initials.

This way my bank will still accept any payments I get that are so close in name they are acceptable, but hopefully variant enough to ebay to not get recognized.

Will this work? What am I doing wrong? Should I be doing something differently? I am trying to get this done the right way the first time as I need this business back badly.

Thank you so much for your assistance

lakeman 03-14-2009 11:38 AM

My prepaid phone is registered in my real name and works well, so I think yours will to. All of the things you said seem like you have done everything you need to, let's see what others have to say.

Also don't forget about cookies/flash cookies and ip address.

now 03-14-2009 11:53 AM

Thanks so much for your guidance. So the phone should be good. Excellent. I was going to clear cookies and passwords on both Firefox and internet explorer. Flash cookies I was going to look up how to do as I first saw reference to that today. I was going to create a new Windows user. Ip address I was going to go to "what is my IP" then turn off the computers and router for a while and proceed only after it changed on "what is my IP". I am not the most technical guy so want to be super careful. I want to make sure I am not looking at my local Ip rather than the one the outside world sees when contacting my router.

I would love to have multiple ebay ID's, and really need them, but cannot figure out how to make my IP address change every time I switch ID's without taking foolish risks of ding something dumb and jeopardizing everything.

I would love other feedback from the community on my plans as well as I am desperately in need of getting this account going again. Reading all you folks have posted has given me hope in recovering from this unfair suspension.

lakeman 03-14-2009 12:26 PM

You won't need to worry about cookies or flash cookies if you make a new user account. To change my IP, I change my routers MAC address. I have a Linksys router which makes it pretty easy, this thread gives some good advice(in the quoted part is the info you're looking for.)

HOW TO: Change Cable Modem IP Addresses to CONTROLLED NUMBERS

RobFagles 03-14-2009 12:34 PM

Actually, I think I've got RingCentral down now.

You get to choose among 800 numbers, vanity numbers, and local numbers. I was able to get a local number without extension using the $14.99/month plan. Each additional number is $5.00

That is an easy investment for handling the phone forwarding problems.

now 03-14-2009 01:30 PM

I don't have to worry about flash cookies? I am creating a new account. So just clearing my cache and cookies and passwords will do it? And changing the Mac address will allow me to use multiple ebay ID's each with there own IP address? My internet provider says they naturally change IP's every 3 days. When they do that will what I am doing with Mac addresses still work? But the IP's will simply be harmlessly different?

I didn't know about Mac addresses, thanks so much for that information. This is the solution for managing multiple ebay ID's on one internet connection? I will follow carefully. So changing the Mac address will change my IP. I have been doing it by turning off the router for a period of time.

I use AOL dial up which gives me different IP every time I log in. I have every Ebay ID set up as different windows user, so I can't make mistake. This also takes care of the flash cookies. I use Auctiva to list my auctions and only log into Ebay via dial-up when I need to answer questions from buyers. So far, it works for me... Hope it helps.

lakeman 03-14-2009 01:41 PM

If you use a new user account on your computer then you do not have to clear cookies or flash cookies. They stay separate with each user account.

Yes, Changing the Mac address should give you a new IP each time, make sure you verify my going to an IP site, like Whatismyip.com before and after you change it.

It's best to use Excel or write down all of your info and the MAC address you use for each account. I always go to whatismyip.com after changing my MAC to verify it changed my IP. I would ignore your IP changing by itself every three days. It shouldn't have any effect on changing the MAC address.

now 03-14-2009 01:58 PM

Wow, that is awesome... makes it so simple. Thanks so much! So you rarely have to go into ebay and you only work in the AOL browser. I assume it is not safe to answer emails that go to my email account from "member@ebay.com". I should answer them through ebay so as to not send a reply from the wrong account accidently? And logging into paypal requires the same discretion, is that matched up as well with each ID?

My tech support with the internet provider told me the other day that dial up would have a consistent IP address, but I had read here that it was always different as you explained. I am sure he was just mistaken.

So I will not have to worry about flash cookies if I create a different User in Windows for each? Should I clear passwords and cookies in between each ID switch?

Auctiva can push up to any account? I am presently with a company that does my website and pushes auctions to ebay, but I am terrified of having them push anything up as I am afraid it will be recognized. So I was going to begin anew, which is a huge endeavor. Do you have an opinion on this? They think its safe as I am not the first of there customers to be suspended, but I don't want to blow it.

Is it safe to take pictures off the web, save to my hard drive then upload into the auction from my hard drive? I have read the create listing looking differently and to use different photos. And is it safe to list items I have had before? I know to start slow with cheap items a few new auctions at a time.

Sorry to have so many questions but my family is counting on me. You folks are awesome!

now 03-14-2009 02:03 PM

Thank you lakeman. Excellent guidance. So I have a choice of connecting through my high speed connection as you have guided or using AOL dial up as Lyda explained. I am on my way...... lol.

And each account should be a different name variation and address and phone number of course...

Lyda do you have any advice on my earlier post regarding using a similiar name (with minor variation) to my own name for my ebay and paypal account? So I can getit to work with my bank acount?

Thank you both so much!

Lyda 03-15-2009 05:25 PM

I think its ok to use variations of your name, just make sure that all other info is different (Ebay - PP) from each other set of Ebay/PP. Meaning, make sure that every Ebay account has the same info on PP linked account to it, but different info to all others.. I hope I make sense...considering the fact English is not my native language.

now 03-15-2009 09:44 PM

Lyda,

Your post communicated quite effectively, and I would never guess that English was not the language you were most comfortable with.

I wonder if my phone line for dial up would be an issue as I have Verizon Fios for my phone, so I am using the same technology as my internet, fiber optic lines.

thakid212 05-10-2009 12:04 AM

What happen to Vumber?

well now you've got me curious.. what is your native language?

Lyda 05-10-2009 07:02 AM

Hmmm, let it remain a mystery for now....:) Been here long enough to be more comfortable with English than my own language though.

aol dialup, dialup for that matter, is super slow....i mean, when trying to load a page it takes forever! i can start to load a page, go and take a dump and take a shower , have a smoke, and then maybe it would finish loading.....any other dialup that is faster?
