Was the item high risk? Did you follow proper stealth? So many unanswered questions.

You got linked or identified as high risk. No choice but to call and have id ready in case of verification.

zoneout 12-29-2012 11:48 PM

Software that is OEM licensed. I have sold it in the past with no issues. Do you think they do a manual review on items listed in new accounts? Yes did follow all proper stealth. Have 6 other stealth accts that didnt get this so I dont think they are linked.

Will I have to call them? The link seems to be sending me to some kind of form.

rsot 12-30-2012 09:43 AM

The first item was software? Yes that is high risk...I would have built sales before going to that.

Of course they can do a manual review...you probably just triggered an automated flag but now a form to fill...can you post up the form?

GreenBean 12-30-2012 11:44 PM

New accounts & licensed software have been flagged for many weeks.

Usually that form asks for a few details, possibility of a pin being sent out.

What do you want to do?

Action is needed otherwise the account will be locked.

Clock is ticking down.

When I clicked on the link today it just took me to the usual `contact us` page where you can call CS 24/7. I will call today and let you know how it goes. Will definitely start off with more mundane items in the future.

Keep an eye on the time.

If closing is say 10:00PM PTZ (California time), avoid calling at 9:45pm. CS staff get postal about late calls.

Good Luck

The funny thing is the email they sent said I have 48 hours, but when I log into the system I get that friendly massage in bold red saying I have 72 hours to contact them. Ehh, I guess why should I be surprised at their incompetence. Too bad there isn`t a DSR system for THEIR customers - they would be getting a very solid 1 for communication. :mad2:

So I called in and got to an Asian call center. The girl was polite - it was obvious she was reading from a script so I just played along. They wanted to know if I had the product in my possession or was drop shipping. Then the public database questions which I somehow got thru.

Seems these mc999 have nothing to do with risky items... they come up now automatically about 2-3 days after the first listing.

BTW, the system was correct - not the email - you have 72 hours to call.

After creating 3 eBay accounts and still up running to this day the pattern I notice is that usually 2-3 days after the the first auction is created they will automatically MC999 the account. Call, be courteous and answer the questions and is all good from there unless you sell VERO

jjm87 01-30-2013 11:30 PM

I had this same problem, I have a couple days to call, my first item I listed was a vhs movie for a dollar. What types of questions do they ask? Thanks.

css1 01-31-2013 01:24 AM

name, dob, address... simple stuff.

STACCATO 01-31-2013 05:57 AM

You may have to let accounts sit for a little then list to avoid this. Everyone will not be able to pass that test that they have.

Knowing your account info helps a lot - first mistake made by many

You got some easy questions then.

turkeyhunt 02-12-2013 06:34 PM

Hmm yeah I have been getting these type of messages after I list my item. It makes no difference if I wait or list right away. But normally its just a simple is the item in your possession, how do you plan on shipping, etc? Sometimes, though they want to ask other questions from public database.

THough I have noticed, that the sooner I call to receiving the message, the more lenient and nice they tend to be about the account.

danshan 03-10-2013 07:55 PM

If name is not real how could you possibly answer the public database questions? Everytime I get hit with the questions they are like what cars have you owned? Are you related to which of the following people? Where do you get the answers to those questions?

Claise 03-10-2013 08:38 PM

Most of the time they won't be able to pull up information and will suspend the account unless they are in a good mood that day. Sometimes you can scuzzy your way out of the questions. For example stating that you just moved from outside the US. However I have managed to answer the questions correctly (Don't know how) on a stealth account before also and was then reinstated or it could have been because I was being really nice over the phone.

easy fix

all you have to do is call in, then they should tell you that they cant make any questions up that you can answer, then they will re-instate your account.

Trust me that is not going to work consistently over the board for other users.

:nono:

Agree with GB on this one - there are standard questions they ask, all of which on the large part are passable - if you get an outlying question...best to be professional about it and hope for the best. If it goes bad and you need documents, then creativity will be order.

Nikez87 09-01-2013 01:30 PM

Being polite, although simple, can go a long way. Remembering to act as if you are new to all this will also help. Ask questions. Usually when I've gotten MC999 in the past, I was told to contact them within so many hours. I call right away, they ask questions along the line of what are you selling, is it in your possession, will anyone else be in control of your account and how will items be shipped. That part is the simple easy part. The more difficult part is when you need to be verified. They will ask the database questions as other have mentioned, (cars owned, places lived, people known, counties lives in, loans and etc.). Usually theres only about 4 questions but those four questions can be intimidating to those who have created a '⊗⊗⊗⊗ name' with stealth info.

I'm not sure if there will ever be a way to reinstate these accounts due to no knowledge of the 'stealthed' persons info.
