Thumbs down Somewhat dead account...how should I handle it?

Hey folks -

I have a business account with 2800+ feedback that was suspended due to some buyers being extremely shady with their cases. I was able to get it reinstated after some effort, and we sold merrily for awhile, but then we got into another bit of trouble. Currently, we're 'above average' on the seller rating scale, and have 0 negative / neutral feedback over the last 60 days. We've also not been caught doing anything that eBay doesn't like, so no strikes there.

It seems like a case where I would want to call them and talk about 'raising my selling limit' but I've read all about how you don't really want to do that on this and other forums. I would just let the account die, but I put quite a bit of effort into it to get it to that level.

The other thing is, the account is effectively dead already right now since I can't list anything, so my thought is that I don't really have much to lose. I'm looking for thoughts, ideas, queries, whatever. How would you go about attempting to get this account back working? Should I simply call them and ask, or is there a better way to go about it?

Many thanks for reading my novel, and any help you might be able to provide!

Account isnt dead, it just needs the limits reset...

I personally WOULD NOT CALL and just wait till the 1st of the month.

Calling brings unwanted and unnecessary attention to you.

Sell, max out the limits and keep the problems (Cases, negs, neutrals) to a minimum

Do not call - you are risking losing the account altogether with a manual "eye" on it - listen to BigCJ

Here's my question though....currently the account is functionally dead, because the limits have not been reset, although I am above standard. Obviously at this point I'll wait for the new month and see if it automatically resets.

Is anyone aware of any type of timeline where an account limitation would simply reset? I absolutely agree that I don't want to call them in any way, ever, for any reason. But I'm feeling like I don't have much to lose if the account is functionally dead now.

Thanks for the input folks.....really appreciate it. Trying not to blow this.

Of course being a longtime lurker in this forum I have a strong backup already going (9K limit so far), but I'm hoping to somehow get the other one back as well.

Update: It's now October 1, and I'm still at the same spot. When I attempted to list an item, I get the following message:

It looks like you've reached the number of items and amount you can list. You can list up to 0 items and $0.00 in total sales this month. Request to list more

Any thoughts on my next move? I can't sell anything because I have no items listed, and I can't list anything because for some reason I'm allowed $0.00. I was hoping it might have rolled over into a new month and reset but clearly that isn't the case.

Only move is to call them up - you may be able to pass questions but prepare to be hit with documents. Also - they might not reinstate any selling limits ...but it's worth a shot

What else is happening?

if you call, can you manage any requests they make?

It sounds like there is something else going on with this account. Selling limits get reset first of every month, unless there is something else, like eB asking for docs.

Agree with Artann,

based on the limited info supplied, the suggestion to call up is far too risky.

OP, if you wish please supply more info.

As far as I know, I've never been asked for documents of any kind. We were kicked off once when eBay kicked off like 25K sellers, but we spoke with multiple CS reps and eventually got back on. We've never dodged a request for docs because they've never asked us for them as yet. Other than that, I'm not banned from selling or buying, and I have received no threatening emails from them. In fact I get their Seller Newsletters telling me all about how I can sell more! It's fairly odd.

I guess I'd be interested to know further thoughts, as well as what kinds of questions they might be likely to ask me if I were to call. Of course I have all the name / address / phone # information from the seller info I set up, but I understand they might ask for much more than that, and I'm not certain what that would be.

Just want to bump this once to see if anyone has any further input or strategies before I go ahead and make the call to eBay. Thanks for anything you all might send my way!

for the long-term selling accts with established selling history, is the general consensus that falling "below standard" at the time of evaluation means an automatic suspension? or, is there a gray-area where more established sellers with lots of feedback can keep an account as long as improvements are shown?

From being active in this forum for a while now have to say nothing is guaranteed, even when an account will be suspended, there may well be a grey area when established sellers with lots of feedback can keep going if they are improving dsr's, on the other hand, they may get even less leeway than everyone else.
