Suggest strategies to advertise your off ebay businesses

I am looking to diversifying my traffic from ebay to my own website and looking at the various approach to do this besides postage insertions and without falling foul of ebay.

Please share your best known strategies for this.

For now, collecting buyer email addresses - then subscribing them to your newsletters.

But eBay is closing in on this from of business as they know they're losing revenue. They have already announced that from September you can no longer share your contact information in item descriptions, images, or your eBay Shop or seller profile.

I would think soon that will extend to the way Amazon conduct their business, whereby you and buyer have no way of contacting each other outside of Amazon messages.

So essentially, leaflets in a box would be the only way forward in the future. Unfortunately.

SEO isn't an issue, however, how do you SEO your ebay customers to your site?

An option I am looking at is using our domainname email address as our contact address which is always display in the contact info but that itself, I don't think 99% of customers will check.

In my research, I have seen big sellers mentioned in the description they have thousands more on their website without actually mentioning the site name but I see that as a risk too. This idea could be effective though if I were to create several stealth for the sole purpose of milking traffic to my site or getting direct enquiries about our site. Such stealth are not created for selling and would not have bank account attached but any sale from them would only be a bonus. If a stealth like this would last 3 months then it is a great success.

I print out a piece of paper with a discount code and my web address at stick it on every single order envelope i get from amazon and ebay. I started this at the beginning of the year and now my website now brings in 25-35% of what my ebay or amazon stores bring in.

I cant fully leave ebay or amazon yet. But the end goal is eventually to rely less on those 2 channels and focus more on my site eventually

ONE More thing......i use the import listing settings from shopify....when it imports the listings...it imports the contact information from every single sale ive gotten from ebay. So i have 1000's of contact information from my previous customers. I send them all a mass mail at the end of every month too.

Issue with spotify is when I attempt to reimport my ebay listings, it just does not update properly instead it imports a lot of duplicates. I am not sure it is able to update from the last time you run it.

Yes while you do get duplicates. YOU still have all the email addresses of all the people who have bought from you. I then copy it into excel format it so i can use the data the way i want. Delete duplicate emails.....then use that as your mailing list.

I don't mean duplicate emails, those can be cleaned in a matter of seconds. I am talking of duplicate listings. Imagine you had 800 items in your 1st import then the next time you run it you now have an additional 1200 listings bringing the total to 2000. Meanwhile 900 of those are duplicates. What a pain

Shopify is better only when it is used to import your listing at the 1st instance. The development is focused on pushing new listing to ebay. It is a mess when you try to update from ebay each time.

There are better ways to collect those emails without duplicating your content. Inkfrog is just one example to look at fetching your emails.
