eBay Feeling Generous - Both Parties Favored

Hi there,

I sold an item for £20 on eBay. About 20 days later, they claimed that the item arrived in sellotaped plastic bags instead of boxing, which is not true and they weren't able to send a photo to eBay as evidence.

Upon it being sent to customer service for the Money Back Guarantee review, they decided to reimburse the buyer the full amount BUT not charge me for it OR impact my seller ratings.

"We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of £20.00 without any impact to you."

I've never seen this before. Do you think this is a one-off thing or have other people had this quite often with them?

I've had that experience before. Basically saying the buyer doesn't have evidence but the buyer is always right

Happens fairly regularly.

They basically want to keep the buyers, and if it means a small loss, when that user is a heavy buyer, they do this.

Re: eBay Feeling Generous - Both Parties Favored

I had a buyer open an INR, tracking showed delivery, case closed in my favour. Logged into my ebay a few days later to see I had a red ‘not received’ balance, when all orders had been paid for and dispatched.
Found the transaction from the above INR request which showed a payment adjustment to a negative balance. Clicked on the INR case details and said it was found in my favour. Find Paypal transaction says ‘refunded by ebay’ ask ebay to confirm and yes they refunded the buyer and I kept the payment.
In this case the buyer had the item sent to:
First line - buyers name
Second line - soandso library.
The tracking said it had been signed for by ‘library’. So where is the doubt?

A different buyer opened a return request saying I had sent the wrong item to the wrong address.
In the request they attached a picture of the packaging I apparently used, it was addressed to another name and house on the buyers street. And whilst I paid and printed postage online the packaging the buyer had uploaded had been sent from a post office (with their price and signed for sticker attached). I sent a small parcel, the packaging they photographed was for a large letter (the smallest size jiffy envelope) the item wouldn’t have even fit the item I sold inside.
The buyer claimed it was the parcel I had sent her because her postman told her so and it was delivered the same day.
Ebay didn’t force me to refund but unbelievably they also refunded the buyer out of their own coffers. For a parcel with a different address and tracking number on it!

Ebay have only encouraged the buyers to do this again and again to different sellers. I wouldn’t even like to know how many times a buyer could get away with doing it. I sill remain a bit dismayed by it. I have no defects on my seller account from either of these transactions but they are probably hidden away somewhere out of view on ebay’s system.
