Troublesome Buyer

Hello,

I recently sold an item on eBay for approx £5.

Because of the small value I took the risk of not sending it via recorded delivery.

The buyer then claims that he hasn't received it and opened 'not received' case.

Although dubious I gave the buyer the benefit of the doubt and send another - by recorded delivery.

This item has now been delivered and it is brand new. The buyer is now complaining that it is not as described.

As he already has opened the 'not received' case (which I most likely will win as I can prove it was delivered) can he now open a 'not as described one too'?

The scumbag is just after a freebee no matter what. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the item.

I would appreciate your experience.

Thanks

Unfortunately, they know how to screw you, and you cant really prevent it entirely.

He can open a secondary case after the original case is closed.

He is attempting to send one item back to you, and keep the original and get you to refund.

For a fiver, id just let him have it. Its not worth the stress. He's gonna screw you either way, at least refunding him might save you some neg feedback.

Yes from my own experience, unfortunately after an INR has been closed the buyer can go on and open other cases for the same transaction for whatever reason they want.
They can also open paypal disputes for the transaction too.

When I asked ebay why buyers are allowed to do this their response was the buyer may have located the item after the INR was closed and discovered it wasn’t as described/wrong item sent.

Some buyers are out to get a freebie and ebay gives them plenty of opportunities.

In addition to the above comment; a buyer can easily contact eBay and potentially have the case re-categorised.

Also, buyers are often told to take up matters with PayPal if they lose cases. They have up to 6 months to open claims with PayPal for whatever reason they like.

Then if they lose with PayPal, they are encouraged to pursue matters with their respected banks and thus file chargeback claims. If the chargeback claims are SNAD claims, then they are not covered under PayPal's Seller Protection programme.

But if they are INR claims, then you will most likely be protected but PayPal will be monitoring your account, and regular chargeback activity--even when you win--can result in them wanting to part ways with you.

So in the end, you will always be on the losing side but that's the compromise we sellers have to take when selling on eBay. It's sad but true.

I would have just refunded them, then blocked them. Never give people more than one chance to rip you off.

How do you know it is that specific buyer? Why don't you just block them and they won't ever buy again
