UK customs

Importing from China and abroad

seems to be intermittant backlogs for goods held at customs for long periods.

Any tips on how to avoid customs or hurry it thru, perhaps send via ups or fed ex?

Has anyone had goods seized?

What has been your longest waiting time.

maybe small orders multiples address, work with me

boondoggle 05-29-2009 06:39 AM

Ive never had a major problem with uk customs, had a few long waits- 1 week+ after which I assumed the package must have been seized, only for it to be released later.
I don't find using different couriers makes any difference to the customs time

oompaloompa 05-29-2009 06:50 AM

once you do get a seizure, use a different delivery address as you will be logged, what Im not 100% certain about is if its down to the seller/sender ie their address is logged for past seizures with other customers, only way to tell i suppose is if you get 2 seizures in a row from same supplier.

I usually aske the seller to mark it as a "gift", and put something random in the "contents" section of the form e.g. "ornaments".

ems from china is very slow

the fastest i have tried is dhl i get get items from china within 3 days
but the custom charges are sky high but i never pay them just keep changing the name on the packages.

Penya 05-29-2009 03:48 PM

I used to recieve 2-3 packages a week by EMS and only one package was opened by customs with some dodgy items but still was delivered to me. After that I was spreading packages between few addresses. Funny thing that it was my local Parcelforce delivery man who showed me that package was checked by customs as they put a yellow sticker on it.

i got a package seized a few weeks ago =( lucky it was only a small order
and i was refunded by my supplier. I have had a half a dozen or so packages come in since than so i don't think i am blacklisted if that's even possible. I have had large orders of vero stuff get stopped by customs and all they did was ask me for an invoice and charge me import tax. i say on average about 1/10 of my stuff goes through customs and This includes all my dropship customers =)

ill just leave this here =0

I've been buying from china for the last 3 years and *touch wood* i've never been charged by customs.

How does the whole being charged thing work? How do they demand payment? Do you have to pay before they release your goods? And how does changing the name on the packages help?

Many thanks!

ebay 06-16-2009 04:21 PM

yeah with dhl the good thing is they ask for the money after the delivery so keep switching the name and you want have a problem they will send you that bull from the debt collectors but you know they can't don anything

but never use ups they don't give you the shipping until you pay them

dburnside 06-16-2009 05:22 PM

ive been ordering last few years, put as gift and low value, ems never more than a week, a good company for chinese to use is kcs56.com 3 day delivery from china is brilliant doesnt cost too much more either

ebay 06-16-2009 06:13 PM

ems it too slow it take so long to get to the uk then it takes a couple of days to clear customs :>
with dhl you can get your items on time

sleepyboyz 06-18-2009 03:14 PM

Always take at least 7days to 14days to outbound from custom in uk. It will be the same if your supplier shipped by DHL or Fedex. Only menthod to avoid this is don't ship big parcels.

ebay 06-19-2009 12:50 PM

does it hell take take 7 to 14 days my parcels are huge and they only take 3 days from chian to uk.
even the dhl guy can't lift it himself. :pop2:
