PayPal IPN Setup - Upgrade Paypal from personal to business
 

Hi I purchased a stealth ebay and paypal account from here a long while back and I have been using it without any problems.

I'd like to get some wisdom from the good people here.

I sell legitimate software products that I create myself. I'd like to emphasize that this is legitimate software (not pirated or infringing on copyright)

Some of my listings are digitally delivered in accordance with ebays rules. Currently I have to manually send a download link after the buyer purchases. This is inconvenient for me and can cause a slow star rating if I am slow to deliver. I try to deliver fast but if the buyer orders whilst I'm asleep or at work it may take me a long time to deliver. The slow manual delivery has the potential to cause bed feedback / low star ratings.

The solution to this is to setup automatic delivery. I have found a good service to do this however it requires me to setup a Paypal IPN. It's my understanding that the IPN is only available in a PayPal business account if this is the case then I must upgrade to setup automatic delivery.

Will there be problems if I upgrade? Will I be asked for any documents? I don't have the documents used to create the account as the seller never gave them to me. I daren't click on the upgrade button until I know it's safe to do so.

The other option the website gives me is to create a whole new paypal business account but I assume this is more complicated and hassle than simply upgrading the one I have?

Incorrect, IPN is available to ALL PP accounts out there. Here's the link to use:

Perhaps they've changed it, but from my understanding you used to need a business PayPal. Either way, upgrading won't affect your account, so long as everything is in good standing.

Auto delivery works a treat, just configure the IPN properly and you're good to go in no time. What service are you using? I used to use ejunkie and one issue I had which you may well have was emails ending up in the customers junk mail, so a few days later some would open a case item not received. Just be wary of that.

Also with Software - even though your saying its genuine, if its highly common, its probably highly pirated, get the rights owners permission in writing to sell on ebay to avoid issues going forward.

Hi guys thanks a lot for your replies. I will try to use Urinbits link if that doesn't work I guess I will upgrade. I am using keysender.co.uk as the pricing fits my needs perfectly. As I'm just getting started I don't want a fixed monthly fee I pay a pay per use system which is what keysender use. Also my first 200 sales are free so that's plenty of time to try it out.

As for the software it's not common it's actually software I have created myself hence why I should be able to sell it on ebay as long as they don't confuse it for copyrighted software which has happened in the past but I was lucky to get an ebay agent that actually had some sense and removed the restriction once I proved the software is mine.

Hi Urinbits thanks a lot for the link it seemed to work perfectly. It's strange there was no option I could see in the settings menu to get there but I'm very happy it worked.

Now I just need to wait for a buyer so I can test it.
