Never had that, and I've opened and closed many over the years. (though none recently)

How many did you open and close and in what time frame?

I would put it down to you've opened/closed too many accounts at once. It may also be because you've got too many accounts opened at once (all types of accounts, including current etc.).

Always a good idea to spread out the opening and closing of accounts. It also helps if you use other banks.

I do try to stick to no more than 4 accounts with any one bank

Its possible its a glitch, or maybe you have hit some sort of invincible limit. Give Halifax a ring and find out

I dont see the harm in giving them a ring. If the account is flagged its flagged. Ringing isnt going to make it worse

YOu are getting this message because you have some interest (over £1) that needs to be credited to your account. YOu'll get this interest automaticaly after a year of opening the account or on it's anniversary. If you try to close the account before then you get a message saying you need to go to the bank to close it. It is nothing to do with a glitch or you've opened too many accounts. I have 15 Halifax online savers, some ghosts for limited paypal and ebay accounts.

I presume you meant, do you get access to accounts opened right away?

Yes you do, however don't add it to PayPal right away, give it a few days as otherwise it can often throw up error messages.
