Associating CC to alternative PP delivery address to “Confirm” shipping address

Hi All

This one has got me totally stumped.

Paypal states that in order to ‘Confirm’ an address it needs to check the default address you setup in paypal against the billing address of a credit card. The ‘default’ address in paypal is usually the one that a seller ships items purchased to. (this is all clear and OK)

However, what is not clear is if you want a seller to ship items purchased to an alternative delivery address and the process required to confirm this new alternative delivery address in paypal.

SELLER ISSUE: Apparently, a confirmed address is often required by sellers who are concerned about protecting their buyers purchases and will Only ship items to the address that is identical to your billing addresses. In my case, I must be able to have items shipped to an alternative delivery address from day one and Not to my billing address.

How to Add an Alternative Shipping Address to My PayPal Account

In paypal it gives a simple step-by-step on how to add an alternative delivery address, but then it states the following:

If you created an alternative address for yourself, click the box next to any credit card you wish to associate with the address under “Associated Credit Cards.”

• What exactly does this mean?
• Does this CC association to an alternative delivery address solve the Seller issue above?
• Are there any stealth dangers in associating a credit card to an alternative delivery address in paypal? (this assumes that the CC passed the AVS linking check in paypal in the first place)

I read a very old paypal blog post (2008) that stated that there are requirements that must be met in order for paypal to allow a seller to deliver to an alternative delivery address. (are these requirements below still valid today or does the Associated Credit Cards process above replace this??)

• Be a PayPal member for longer than 90 days
• Have a Buyer Reputation Number of at least 10
• Be a Verified member of PayPal (add and confirm a bank account)
• Be a domestic user in good standing
• Provide an address that is NOT a P.O. Box

Thanks once again to the group and apologies for a rather long post.

Re: Associating CC to alternative PP delivery address to “Confirm” shipping address

My apologies to the UK post readers for my post confusion  . I seem to have mistakenly assumed that an ‘Alternate Address’ was the same thing as an ‘Additional Delivery Address’.

Upon further googling it appears that ‘Alternate Address Confirmation’ and the tick box used to associate a credit card to an Alternate Address, is Only relevant to the ebay/paypal users in the US. I guess it allows US users to basically have 2 Primary Addresses in one paypal account?

Based on this new understanding, I believe that I can add an additional delivery address to my new paypal account and start having items delivered to this other address straight away without any issues. Or am I wrong?

Thanks for your continued patience :)
