New UK eBay rules regarding Tracking Numbers! Your thoughts..

UK eBay have announced that they will be making uploading tracking mandatory for items shipped via a trackable shipping service. This change applies to all sellers including business sellers and private sellers.

As of 4 March 2019, you are required to upload tracking in the structured data field before the estimated delivery date has passed. This is so that eBay can protect you if a buyer claims they haven’t received the item. Sending the tracking number to the buyer via email won’t protect you from a claim. We always recommend you upload tracking information as soon as you have shipped the item.

Seems many sellers who sell cheap items & non tracked postage are going to suffer from this. What's your thoughts on this? Do you guys know a work around? Any tips? Is it safe to add a made-up number?

How's that then?

From what you've said it won't affect them at all. If you don't use a trackable service then you don't need to upload anything.

Just means you'll lose any claims where you don't upload the tracking in advance. But you would have lost them anyway if you didn't have a tracking number so no big deal,

That said, if you get a Royal Mail account and send using Royal Mail 24 or 48 through click and drop then you'll get "confirmation of delivery" which is valid tracking for eBay

Doesn't Ebay take the buyers side on most issues anyway?

Sir, there are many big sellers who use 1st or 2nd class services non tracked! Hence why they offer FREE SHIPPING.

They save money to beat competitors and attract more buyers with their cheap prices.

For example 2nd class in large letter costs £0.60 but to use a 2nd class tracking service will go up to £1.70 which means product prices must go up.

This is a big problem for big sellers who rely on large bulk sales (Example Iphone cases)

Suggest you re-read your original post my friend. Sending items tracked is NOT compulsory and it isnt going to be.

Every seller loses a case if no track service included, nothing new about ebay policies there. But are you saying this new rule means no need for the 21 days case dispute between seller and buyer and it simply means SELLER LOST Automatically?

I can live with that if that's the case :)

However eBay say REQUIRED to upload tracked service and in my English it means a must.

Reason I'm curious to know more is because I've been selling on ebay for over 6 years now and never ever provided tracking numbers and happily selling.

thats only if you select a trackable service to be offered in your listing, there is nothing saying you cannot use a standard delivery service

It does not say REQUIRED to use a trackable service so the update to the User agreements will only affect those who offer's a trackable service in there listing
