| JamesNorth101 | 06-27-2019 06:09 AM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 That article really is reaching a bit. Having £1m in sales is far from being a millionaire. I expect the profit margins range from 10% to 20% |

| Pathos | 06-27-2019 09:14 AM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 I've got a feeling that is an eBay led media manipulation, ⊗⊗⊗⊗ News, to try and get more business and fend off Amazon. |
Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 A millionaire is defined to be someone who has a million (dollars, pounds etc.) to their name (if i'm not mistaken). So this is grammatically incorrect if its only taking into account revenue. |

| BlackLion | 06-29-2019 12:37 PM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 A millionaire is someone who has cash or other assets that equate to a million or more, not gross annual revenue. |
| Pedroalva | 06-29-2019 12:56 PM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 may be is the gross earning, after all the expenses wil be smaller |
| BlackLion | 06-29-2019 01:12 PM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 On another note frosting a million annually is amazing imo. We are regular people not celebrities. |

| agent006140 | 06-30-2019 04:08 PM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 Years ago, there is an Ebay seller who lamented he can no longer afford to sell on ebay.
he started out alone selling refurbished, returns of camera and camera related accessories on Ebay,he did well and so he added 4 assistants and his wife.
Now he has layoff all his assistants and his wife is out interviewing for a job,he said his Ebay fee is $120k,and he just cant afford it.
Ebay fee is 10-12% unless you are an underperformer, then it is 14%.
so lets say with $120k ebay fee,his gross sales with shipping must be over $1 million, say $1,200,000.
Paypal fee is based on his volume,1.9 % and 30 cents transaction per payment.
I assume his assistants are kids who work part time and he and his wife work for nothing, just take some money out to pay bills,he should stil be able to stay profitable,so why quit.
If you look at his feedback, there are plenty of complaints that he sent the wrong item, items not as described, either scratched lens, broken pieces etc or item never arrive/
So his return rate must be high, and Ebay is making him pick up return shipping.
I went thru his listings and figure he is asking less than what you would pay in stores, afterall it is reburbished, and imperfect,so how much is his gross margin and how much is his net,his net must be negative if he is about to fold.
so yes,you could gross a million and still be in the poor house.
There is also a couple in California selling dvd and cd back then starting bid at 99 cents,as the market tanked with more dvd and cd and streaming replaces dvd, their warehouse is filled with unsold goods, they filed for bankrutcy.
They were at one time featured in CA news paper as the ecommerce millioniare entrepreneur.
I must have collected over a million as well since 1990s,but it took me many years ,but I am still here and soon to retire, the thrill of selling on internet is gone. |
| agent006140 | 06-30-2019 04:19 PM | Re: 8,500 ebay millionaires since 2009 Oh,then there are the PC/Laptop/scanner.camera sellers,no one has the capital to stock every brand,so they will copy the stock photo from BBY or CompUSA and start with a low open bid with reserve.
it was widely profitable ,then comes Intel inside which replaces the 460 chip ,then comes laptop, then the mini ,and scanner becomes a giveaway.
more people know how to right click a photo and list on Ebay,so Ebay start charging a fee for reserve.
Now of course, you can get a PC for $220 at Wmt.
Then the seller start making money on shipping, then Ebay come down on them for overcharging and slapping a FVF on shipping as well.
Believe it or not, when scanner first come out, many cannot afford a scanner,if you have a scanner, you can make some decent change, they send you a photo or a picture and you scan it for them for a few dollars, the more you give them, the lower the price.
