IP Address

I think I have everything set up to open my new ebay account.

My only problem is we have a static IP address and my husband doesn't want to have to phone our provider and ask them to change it.

I am thinking about buying a prepay USB stick so I can access pay as you go mobile broadband.

If I do this, will I end up with a different IP address?

I will only be using the USB stick from inside my house and I am worried that I will some how end up with the same IP address as our PC and our laptops.

Yes you will get a different ip using the mobile broadband connection.

Make sure you disable your regular broadband connection first, then login using the mobile broadband connection, and you will be fine.

Click "control Panel" then "Network & Internet connections" then right click your broadband connection icon and select "disable" Now you can login with the mobile broadband connection with no chance of logging in with the suspended ip.

Always check and note your ip before logging in to ebay and paypal by going to ipburger.com.

Another good thing about using mobile broadband is that you get a different ip every time you login. This enables you to manage multiple accounts.

Make sure you know what you are doing if you are going to do that though. Get ebay stealth.

The above is true. I have an T-Mobile dongle and it gives me a different IP every time I log on.

I sniped it on eBay for £20 ($15) and it came with the same amount in pre loaded credit. They are £30 plus in the shops.

Depending on your reception area the speeds can be ok as well - much better than dialup. I am not in a good area and I get about 3 mbps out of mine. Much less than my broadband but usable.

biglouis999,

I am new to mobile broadband.

I am going to be getting it very soon because I have been using dial up to manage multiple accounts and It is just taking too long to get anything done. I spend half the time waiting for pages to load and I loose my connection regularly.

What company do you recommend for service? There is a new company out called "Cricket" that offers a free modem and unlimited service for $40 a month. Does this sound good?

Some plans offer say 5GB of data service for more than Cricket charges for Unlimited service. I wonder if you get what you pay for in this instance.

I am in UK so I dont think my recommendations will be much use to you!

The most popular here is T Mobile (which I use for my mobile as well) but people who use 3 says its faster.

Also mine is pay as you go (like my mobile) because I am a low volume user. You can get monthly contracts but you need to do some up front research on intended usage to make sure of your best option.
