Hi,
Can you please show me how to disable FireFox Portable automatic updates?
I really need this option.
Thank you

^ Firefox portables will not be updated unless you manually update it.

Hi,
No, you are wrong my friend, FireFox Portable do it AUTOMATICALLY, you don't have access to disable those updates permanently. I'm using it right now.
But i will find a solution for that soon ;-)

Re: Residential Proxy for Portable Firefox

I love Mozilla but they have become too presumptuous.

They now force auto-update on most of their solutions, leaving users with little choice.

The team behind PortableApps do well to cater to users but Mozilla can be frustrating.

For example, if you look at

\FirefoxPortable\App\DefaultData\profile\prefs.js

You'd find auto-update has been set to "false" but some brilliant lad at Mozilla must have found a way around it so we're force-fed updates.

If you don't plan on ever updating it, you go to this folder:

\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\

then delete the following files:
updater.exe
updater.ini
update-settings.ini

AND
Do the same for files in

\FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox64\

If you plan on any updates in the future, instead of removing the files above, you can append characters after the dot to make the files dormant.

One of the many downsides to FFP is that they don't keep a version history.

If you want to use multiple FFP with different versions, you have to either hunt and keep your own versions from PortableApps or
go to https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
download an executable (not MSI) and unpack it with 7zip or similar tool (not install)
You'd get a portable version of your choice.

If I have a regular Firefox installed on my system and use several firefox portable applications, do cookies and other ebay/paypal sensitive things get shared between those firefoxes? Or no matter what you do, cookies and other objects stay within Firefox portable folder?

What you should do is setup different Firefox profiles instead.

Cookies are completely separate between profiles.

I should set up different profiles in a regular firefox, not a portable right?

just try here:
https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r32...-in-Firefox-65

I use the method adding a new registry key, it works no problem

you can just save as .reg file and double click it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firef ox]
"DisableAppUpdate"=dword:00000001

Thank you for this solution, so far so good!

Updates are disabled by default in my FF now, should I update the FF browser or leave it in its current version 70.0.1?

Is there any chance that cookies will get shared between the profiles with any of the updates?

What listing software do you use in Firefox? All software I know does't have extension for Firefox... only Chrome.
