How to resolve - ebay INR case & Paypal dispute at same time

Hey guys, i would like some advice on how to deal with this situation as i've never come across it before and googling doesn't reveal the best way to handle it.

While away on holiday buyer opens ebay INR, 8 days later i hadn't responded to it as i am away. Buyer has not yet escalated it to ebay.

Buyer then files Paypal dispute 10 days later for INR & escalates it. At present PP haven't decided anything but asking me to resolve the situaton.

I am more than happy to refund buyer as the parcel has been lost. I am a bit lost as i was under the impression you couldn't have 2 cases for same item opened at the same time.

I don't know which dispute to deal with as after reading a few stories on google ebay & pp don't talk to each other anymore, some people have been made to pay a refund twice and then go through hell to get their money back for duplicate refund.

So which dispute should i deal with please?

If it were me I would prioritize the more serious (Paypal) dispute.

That's purely based on my gut feeling though so I have nothing to substantiate it with.

They do still communicate to an extent. If I refund a buyer in PP the eBay sales record automatically update to reflect the refund.

I am kind of leaning towards dealing with PP before somone at PP gets trigger happy & then asking the buyer to close the ebay case as the issue is now being dealt with by PP. He is a bit of a twit and probably won't close the ebay case till he gets his money, being uk PP a refund will be taken by direct debit and take a few days.

Another scenario that i thought of, i deal with PP and issue refund, buyer gets his money and i just let the case time out on ebay as he didn't escalate it which is what most people tend to do. I don't think he's the sort of buyer that would escalte it after getting a refund through PP.

I'm not overly fussed about an ebay defect, neg feedback or the ffv fees.

Yup, this is correct. Its a nightmare and happening loads at the moment.

They know even if they fail at eBay, then can resort to PayPal as a secondary, I am also finding PayPal a lot less interested in deciding in the sellers favour when this happens - they used to, now, its just automatic return item or refund.

I think it is much better now that we have the option to refund customers. A few years back PayPal had to look at every case. I used to be in panic hoping they don't find out it's a stealth account.
